Consumer Loan Underwriter I or II (DOE)

Role: Underwrites direct, indirect and third-party consumer loans for Rogue Credit Union under general supervision and in conformance with established policies and procedures. Works with front line staff, dealer partners and vendors to deliver solutions that are member focused. Additionally, a Consumer Loan Underwriter I will perform a variety of duties and tasks related to underwriting.
Requirements
- Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
- A high school education or GED.
- Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
- Computer and keyboarding skills; loan application and tax analysis skills; good judgment/ decision making skills; good writing skills to include documentation. Highly organized and productive. Strong communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite direct, indirect and third-party loan requests within established credit guidelines and authority. Notifies branch staff, dealer partner and vendor personnel of loan decisions in a timely manner, clearly defining acceptable terms and conditions. Provide adequate explanations on loan decision rationale, while evaluating potential solutions and cross-sell opportunities. Evaluating each application for creditworthiness of the applicants, and the collateral being offered and other factors to decide a loan utilizing with sensible underwriting principles.
- Deliver member focused solutions while providing unsurpassed friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic services to branches/departments, dealer partners and vendors. Work to provide assistance on the member's journey to financial well-being by focusing on member focused solutions.
- Provide coaching and training to front line staff, while maintaining a friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic demeanor.
- Takes a lead role in troubleshooting problems and handling delicate situations with loan applicants and vendors. Answers dealer and staff questions and responds to phone calls.
- Stays current on applicable regulations, credit union policies, operational controls, safety measures, service, and security procedures to ensure compliance throughout assigned areas of the credit union. Remains alert to trends or conditions in areas that affect lending. Communicates frequently with Consumer Lending Center Manager, Member Solutions Department, Lending Services Department and the Indirect Lending Department for trends in the loan portfolio.
- Proactively performs other duties as needed or assigned.
