About The Position

The Consumer Lending Underwriting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Consumer Lending Department.  The Consumer Lending Underwriting Manager must ensure we provide our members with the best possible service during the loan process.  This individual will oversee the development of consumer and indirect lending policies, programs, and product development to obtain the strategic goals of the credit union.  Perform all responsibilities in a manner that serves The Summit’s Mission and upholds the credit union’s values.

Requirements

  • Education: B.A., B.S. preferred, or commensurate work experience.
  • Experience: Three to five years of experience in consumer lending; past managerial experience a plus. Minimum three years indirect lending/underwriting experience. Familiarity with lending regulations governing financial institutions, preferably credit unions, is desired.

  • In depth understanding of our products and services.
  • Excellent sales and service coaching skills.
  • PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Intranet/Internet, navigation of web-based vendor systems, and utilization of teller & banking software
  • Subject to the compliance requirements of all related federal regulations, including but not limited to; the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti Money Laundering (AML), Information Security and Privacy policies and procedures.  Employees complete annual BSA, AML, Information Security, Privacy and other job-related training requirements as established by the Summit and within deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for regulatory compliance regarding consumer loans.
  • Oversee Indirect Lending Program.
  • Develop, train, and coach consumer loan staff that report directly to the Consumer Loan Manager
  • Review quality control audits of the indirect and direct lending to ensure compliance with The Summit’s policies and procedures.
  • Monitor Credit Union Student Choice loan requests such as loan approval exceptions and membership verifications.
  • Ensure that the department maintains a high level of service to our members.
  • Possess a good “working knowledge” of every job function within the department.
  • Support the Sales and Service Culture at the credit union.
  • Monitor and maintain an acceptable level of loan delinquency by directing loan staff to originate quality loans.
  • Responsible for any revisions pertaining to the consumer loan policy for both Direct and Indirect Lending.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of The Summit’s loan operating system and adjust automated underwriting guidelines and products in accordance with the loan policy for both direct and indirect lending.
  • Monitor Loan policy for both Direct and Indirect lending, making recommendations for changes to Sr. Vice President of Lending.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of Direct and Indirect loan policies and make exceptions when needed.
  • Underwrite employee loans.
  • Maintain open communication with all staff members.
  • Employee performance appraisals must be completed in a timely fashion. The employee merit raise formula must be adhered to.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all employee vacations, time off (personal, doctor’s appointments etc.) and sick days must be accurately kept on the employee’s timecard.
  • Strict adherence to the employee attendance policy must be maintained.
  • Forms –Responsible for the development or updating of forms to be used within the department.
  • Vendors – Adequate control should be maintained regarding vendors that provide service to our members and The Consumer Loan Department.
  • Inventory –Responsible for monitoring existing forms and supplies monthly.
  • On an annual basis, be responsible for budget preparation process including expenses such as, capital equipment, staffing, supplies, subscriptions, and any overall departmental expenses.
  • Complete monthly statistical reports and submit to management.
  • May be assigned to work on and complete special projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
