The ideal candidate will provide consulting services to inspect, evaluate, analyze, and design a variety of marine and waterfront structures, facilities, and infrastructure. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary teams of structural, geotechnical, mechanical, fire, and civil engineers working with SGH. You will be expected to have a strong technical background and problem-solving mindset to deliver creative solutions. We are seeking Marine/Waterfront Civil/Structural Engineers to join our Oakland, CA office. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing waterfront and marine engineering practice.

Requirements

  • M.S. degree in Civil, Structural, Coastal, or Ocean Engineering required.
  • 4+ years of experience in waterfront/marine/port/ocean engineering; Experience with ASCE MOP 130, ASCE 61, PIANC Guidelines is a plus.
  • Registered professional engineer in the United States, or ability to obtain within 12 months of joining SGH
  • Communication skills: excellent written, oral and verbal communication skills; Ability to convey information to internal and external clients clearly.
  • Problem-solving ability: capability to solve minor or complex problems using data, logic, and judgment. Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel for client meetings and business development, including some overnight travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ASCE MOP 130, ASCE 61, PIANC Guidelines is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, evaluate, analyze, and design a variety of marine, waterfront, port, and harbor structures, facilities, and infrastructure.
  • Support waterfront stabilization and resiliency projects that involve wind, wave, current, tide, flood, sea level rise, mooring, berthing, and seismic loads.
  • Prepare calculations for project components that may include concrete, steel, aluminum, composite, and timber elements.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Develop construction drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Provide construction administration and field observation.
  • Assist with training, mentoring, and managing junior staff and interns.
  • Assist in proposal development and business development efforts.
