As a Product Architect within the Enterprise Internet and Mobility (EI&M) BSA, you will lead end‑to‑end solution design across our web experiences that power Nationwide’s Enterprise Profile Management (EPM) journeys. You will shape resilient, secure, and scalable architectures that make it effortless for members to access, manage, and personalize their relationship with Nationwide. You will partner with product and engineering teams supporting Customer Account Management (CAM), COAST (Customer Online Account Support Tool), Preference Center, CIAM (Customer Identity & Access Management), and Nationwide.com. CAM authenticates through IAM and brokers customer data from eCIF, NF and P&C via Portfolio Business Services (PBS), and DPIM for agent information to render an integrated account summary. COAST equips CSRs to support NI and NF customers. Preference Center is a modern SPA enabling authenticated and unauthenticated users to manage contact preferences on internet and intranet web. CIAM encapsulates login, registration, and one‑time passcode MFA. Nationwide.com is our customer‑facing site with content managed in our CMS. You’ll apply hands‑on expertise in Java/Spring Boot microservices, Angular SPAs, and API design and management using Apigee, underpinned by strong general architecture design skills. Experience with AWS cloud services and patterns, API and data integration with enterprise systems (including eCIF). You will champion operational excellence, observability, application currency, and architectural simplification across services and front ends. You will set and enforce non‑functional requirements and SLOs, including page load performance targets (e.g., <3 seconds for the Consolidated Account Management page), resilience and graceful error handling, and privacy/security by design. You will personalize experiences based on interaction history and other knowledge sources, and drive iterative improvements informed by member feedback and data. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, security, risk, and customer support, guiding architectural decisions, trade‑offs, and roadmaps, and ensuring consistent, reusable designs that accelerate delivery across CAM, COAST, Preference Center, CIAM, and Nationwide.com while upholding Nationwide’s standards for security, reliability, and member trust. As a Product Architect you will support a line or lines of business or infrastructure domain and are responsible for the technical quality, integrity and evolution of the application portfolio sustaining a product domain, a business function(s) within a Business Solution Area (BSA) or the technology portfolio. Requirements

  • Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is preferred.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in a Technology domain.
  • Shown skill in multiple architectural domains and various technologies.
  • Awareness of emerging technologies.
  • Good communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations on technology strategies while considering various options and business needs.
  • Aptitude to influence, build relationships, negotiate and set priorities needed.
  • Strong executive presence.

Nice To Haves

  • Technology certifications or designation are not required but encouraged.
  • Experience with cloud technologies is preferred.
  • Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
  • Other criteria, including leadership or technical skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
  • Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain systems architecture for a product domain, business function or the technology portfolio.
  • Ensuring that the product meets functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Key contributor on strategies, blueprints and roadmaps for a given product/application/technology area focused on technical directions like Cloud First.
  • Ensure product/application roadmaps are aligned with solution and enterprise roadmaps with the correct guard rails.
  • Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Identifies technology risk, technical currency and technical debt related to applications when planning for new solutions, technology upgrades and maintenance of product/application platforms.
  • Crafts moderate to sophisticated build patterns, accelerators, building codes standard and carrying out compliance with architecture standards.
  • Drives technical quality by conducting or participating in architecture, design and code reviews, capacity planning, modeling and testing.
  • Runs the vitality of technical talent in area of responsibility and provides feedback, suggestions to other people leaders on technical talent.
  • Assists in mentoring lines involved in a product/application development when unfamiliar, new technologies or techniques are introduced.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
