Why This Role Matters ERM’s Impact Assessment & Planning (IAP) service is one of the fastest-growing areas in our global business, supporting major projects in power, technology, infrastructure, and more. As a Biologist , you’ll play a critical role in ensuring environmental compliance and sustainability for large-scale utility projects in Northern California . Your expertise will help our clients achieve success while minimizing ecological risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related field (or equivalent experience). Or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in environmental consulting or biological work in Northern California.
  • Strong technical writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations (ESA, CESA, CEQA, California Coastal Act).
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment with a collaborative mindset.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to health protocols.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or related field.
  • Experience in the power sector and environmental permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with special-status plants and animals in Northern California.

Responsibilities

  • Provide biological expertise for vegetation management operations and maintenance activities for a major California utility.
  • Develop Biological Resource Assessments and support CEQA/NEPA documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permitting requirements, influencing project outcomes that protect sensitive habitats and species.
  • Collaborate with a dynamic team of environmental professionals to deliver high-quality, timely solutions.
  • Prepare Biological Resource Assessments and related technical documents.
  • Support CEQA and NEPA compliance, ESA Biological Assessments, and CDFW 1602 permits.
  • Maintain scope, budget, and schedule expectations while ensuring quality deliverables.
  • Build strong relationships with project managers, clients, and internal teams.
  • Contribute to project coordination and assist with deputy project management tasks.
