About The Position

The Construction Workforce Development Field Trainer plays a vital role in shaping the future of our field workforce. This position is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of all field-focused training programs across Gregory Construction. Serving as the primary owner of the company’s apprenticeship programs and field training standards, this individual ensures that all training initiatives align with operational needs, regulatory requirements, and our commitment to developing skilled craft professionals who embody the Gregory Construction culture. This role oversees apprenticeship programs for Heavy Equipment Operator and Construction Craft Laborer, including internal craft pathways such as Concrete Finisher & Forms Builder, Conduit Installer, and Surveyor. The Field Trainer ensures full compliance with Department of Labor (DOL) and NCCER standards while maintaining practical, hands-on training that supports real-world project execution. This position collaborates closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, Safety, Operations, and the People Department to ensure training programs are scalable, compliant, and directly supportive of project success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction and field operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction craft roles, equipment operations, and field environments.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with field leadership and craft professionals.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to project sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Superintendent, Foreman, or Lead Operator.
  • Familiarity with NCCER curriculum and credentialing processes.
  • Experience managing or supporting DOL-registered apprenticeship programs.
  • Background in designing or modifying training programs within regulatory frameworks.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Education, Human Resources, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage all field training programs, ensuring consistency, quality, and operational alignment.
  • Partner with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Operations leadership to identify skill gaps and workforce development needs.
  • Support onboarding and new hire orientation for craft and equipment personnel.
  • Develop and maintain structured training pathways that promote career progression.
  • Research and implement best practices in construction workforce development and apprenticeship models.
  • Serve as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for Gregory Construction’s apprenticeship programs, including: Heavy Equipment Operator General Construction Craft Laborer Concrete Finisher & Forms Builder Conduit Installer Surveyor
  • Manage On-the-Job Learning (OJL) hour allocations and progression tracking.
  • Oversee NCCER curriculum access, implementation, and credentialing.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to apprentice progression and program standards.
  • Ensure compliance with DOL, state, and industry apprenticeship regulations.
