About The Position

The Construction Superintendent is a field-based, hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities across multiple retail locations. This position ensures projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. Unlike a Project Manager who focuses on planning and administrative coordination, the Superintendent serves as the primary on-site leader, managing daily field operations, subcontractors, and site logistics while reporting to the Project Manager or Construction Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of construction experience, with at least several years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial/retail construction methods, materials, and tools.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification required (or ability to obtain).
  • Proven leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage diverse teams and subcontractors.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and meet physical demands of site supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing multi-site retail or tenant improvement projects.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct all on-site construction activities, including coordinating subcontractors, trades, and labor crews.
  • Lead daily site operations: conduct morning meetings/toolbox talks, assign tasks, monitor progress, and adjust schedules as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct regular site inspections, ensure compliance with OSHA standards, and maintain a safe working environment (including accident prevention and reporting).
  • Perform quality control checks on workmanship, materials, and installations to ensure they meet specifications, blueprints, and building codes.
  • Manage site logistics: coordinate material deliveries, equipment usage, and site organization/cleanliness.
  • Resolve on-site issues, conflicts, or delays promptly (e.g., weather impacts, subcontractor performance, or unforeseen conditions).
  • Document daily activities, progress reports, photos, and logs; communicate updates to project management.
  • Train, mentor, and manage field personnel; address performance issues and promote teamwork.
  • Oversee site security, temporary facilities, and environmental compliance (e.g., erosion control, waste management).
