About The Position

Compliance Management International (CMI) is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Manager to serve as an Owner’s Representative for a large-scale data center construction project located in Ashburn, VA. This role is ideal for a proactive safety professional with deep expertise in mission-critical environments who can lead, influence, and support construction teams in achieving world-class safety performance. You will serve as the safety liaison between the owner, general contractor, and subcontractors—ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, and internal protocols.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant data center construction safety experience or 10+ years of general construction safety experience.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse teams including construction managers, engineers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and project management skills.
  • Deep understanding of mission critical / data center construction, both greenfield and live environments.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and standards: OSHA 1910 & 1926, NFPA 70E, ISO 45001, and local code equivalents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
  • Proficiency in G-Suite tools and familiarity with construction information management platforms.
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification within the last 5 years.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Industry certifications highly preferred, including:
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Owner’s interests on-site, providing oversight of contractor safety programs, procedures, and practices.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and walkthroughs to ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and local/regional codes.
  • Engage with general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to promote and enforce safe work practices.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to site personnel on EHS topics as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to support safe and efficient execution of work.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and the development of corrective actions.
  • Ensure all work activities align with the Owner’s health and safety policies and project requirements.
  • Review contractor documentation including safety plans, JSAs, permits, and logs.
  • Support commissioning and operations handover processes with an emphasis on safe startup procedures.
