Our client is seeking a detail‑oriented Construction Project Accountant to support financial management and operational accounting for ongoing commercial electrical construction projects. This role will play a key part in ensuring financial integrity, project cost control, billing accuracy, and timely reporting to support leadership and project teams. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced environment, has construction or contracting experience, and is committed to accuracy, accountability, and proactive problem‑solving.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of accounting or project accounting experience (construction industry preferred)
  • Strong understanding of job cost accounting and financial reporting
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with construction accounting systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, Procore)
  • Background supporting commercial construction or contracting firms
  • Knowledge of AIA billing practices and retainage reporting

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records for construction and service projects
  • Monitor project budgets, costs, and revenue performance
  • Prepare job cost reports and analyze variances
  • Assist with preparing project forecasts and cash‑flow analysis
  • Prepare and issue accurate project progress billings
  • Reconcile billing with project contracts and change orders
  • Follow up on accounts receivable to support timely collections
  • Review and process vendor invoices for project expenses
  • Coordinate with project managers to verify labor, equipment, and material charges
  • Manage subcontractor pay applications and support lien waiver tracking
  • Produce internal financial reports for leadership and project teams
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and relevant regulations
  • Assist with year‑end close and audit preparation
  • Work closely with project managers, operations, and field teams to ensure financial alignment
  • Provide timely responses to accounting inquiries from internal stakeholders
