About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee highway and transportation construction projects in the Richmond, VA area. This role will be responsible for managing all phases of construction for VDOT-funded projects, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in highway construction, including roadway, structures, and traffic-related projects, and possess deep familiarity with VDOT standards, processes, and construction practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license orCertified Construction Manager (CCM) certification
  • Proven experience working on VDOT highway construction projects
  • Strong background in highway and transportation construction, including:
  • Roadway construction
  • Structures (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, etc.)
  • Traffic engineering and traffic control
  • Construction methods, procedures, and best practices
  • Plans, specifications, and construction contracts
  • Solid understanding of construction management principles, scheduling, cost control, and risk management

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience managing or overseeing large-scale VDOT or DOT-funded transportation projects
  • Familiarity with VDOT inspection, reporting, and documentation systems
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders and priorities

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee construction activities for highway and transportation infrastructure projects, including roadway, structural, and traffic-related work
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between owners, contractors, inspectors, engineers, and VDOT representatives
  • Ensure compliance with VDOT requirements, contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, contracts, and change orders
  • Monitor construction progress, schedules, budgets, and quality control/quality assurance activities
  • Coordinate construction methods, procedures, and sequencing to ensure efficient project execution
  • Oversee inspection activities, documentation, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle
  • Evaluate contractor performance and resolve construction issues, disputes, and claims as they arise
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and promote a strong safety culture on all job sites
  • Participate in project meetings, progress reviews, and stakeholder briefings
  • Support project closeout activities, including final inspections, punch lists, and documentation
