The Utilities Infrastructure Protection team is hiring a Construction and Maintenance Specialist for Utility Infrastructure Protection. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire specialized training and expertise in construction and quality control standards. Please note that the starting rate of pay for this position is set at $32.92/hour, followed by an increase to $34.56/hour after completion of the probationary period (typically 6 months). In this position, you will be responsible for: Overseeing scheduled standby appointments and providing oversight for contractors and excavators who are exposing and crossing critical utility infrastructure Performing thorough inspections of all construction conflicts and utility crossings that are occurring near infrastructure, ensuring that Colorado Springs Utilities’ mandated clearance regulations are adhered to by all contractors and excavators crossing any underground facility Reporting clearance violations in accordance with the CSU Regulatory and Compliance Near-Miss program Work daily with internal and external customers to ensure the safety of our infrastructure and the property of others by providing safe excavation advice and guidance during scheduled appointments and conducting excavator field audits Who You Are… You will most likely offer 2 or more years of underground utility construction experience Must have the ability to plan, coordinate, and document activities to meet the needs of customers' scheduled gas standby appointments Candidates must obtain operator qualifications (OQ) in tasks related to natural gas pipe coatings, wrapping and taping, tracer wire, anodes, test stations, and excavation and compaction standards Must be able to obtain military installation access prior to probationary period ending A valid, unrestricted driver’s license is required for this role This position requires the successful candidate to work overtime, weekends, holidays, etc., as business needs dictate. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Exerts 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
