About The Position

Delta Utilities is seeking a C&M Technician to perform company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, construction and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages), punctuation, grammar and spelling.
  • C&M Tech I: Requires no prior work experience.
  • C&M Tech II: Requires a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in construction, installation and maintenance of gas distribution systems, including a commercial driver’s license and company welding certifications.
  • C&M Tech III: Requires a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in construction, installation and maintenance of gas distribution systems, including two years' experience welding (steel) pipe. Requires a commercial driver’s license and company welding certification.
  • Able to apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations.
  • Able to provide a valid state driver's license and present and maintain a good driving record and to operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Able to use the proper tools for any given job.
  • Able to assist with Plugging and Tapping procedures.
  • Able to assist in preparation of pipe for welding.
  • Able to learn and operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, trencher and a two-ton or larger truck.
  • Able to learn and perform gas meter resets and relights.
  • Able to learn and utilize company’s mapping system.
  • Able to learn and complete paperwork as required.
  • Able to demonstrate an aptitude for basic mechanical tasks.
  • Able to respond well to changing priorities.
  • Able to solve problems with logical solutions.
  • Able to demonstrate and utilize effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Able to learn and use a Personal Computer, SAP and Mobile Data.
  • Able to listen effectively and clarify information as needed.
  • Able to communicate with co-workers, customers, community leaders and/or contractors and vendors.
  • Able to work independently or in a team based environment to accomplish assignments and achieve objectives.

  • Have and maintain a current/valid driver's license.
  • Class D with Class A CDL preferred driver’s license or with the expectation of obtaining one within the first 6-months of employment.
  • Able to obtain company plastic welding certification within 12 months and company Arc or Oxygen-Acetylene welding certification within 24 months.
  • Able to demonstrate and maintain company plastic welding certification and company Arc or Oxygen-Acetylene welding certifications.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
  • Able to perform on-site inspections.
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Able to exert up to 50 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, within your scope of responsibilities.
  • Job duties are performed in a normal and clean office environment with normal noise levels.
  • Work is predominately done while standing or sitting.
  • The ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize and analyze are required.
  • Able to work daily in all types of weather conditions.
  • Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime.
  • Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
  • Able to work rotating shifts, if required.
  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
  • Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs daily.
  • Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
  • May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
  • As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol

Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs or replaces steel and plastic pipe.
  • Provides First Responder assistance in emergency situations.
  • Locates gas lines.
  • Loads and unloads required equipment, tools, and supplies onto and from truck.
  • Transports required equipment, tools, and supplies to work sites.
  • Trains and coaches less experienced members of the crew.
  • Assists with or leads work on site.
