About The Position

The Construction Lead Person (Steel Erection) is an important entry level supervisory position. The Construction -Lead Person (Steel Erection) assists the Superintendent and Foreman in supervising and leading a group of Employee-Owners (i.e., construction crews and the individual Employee-Owners on a jobsite) in the erection of pre-engineered, prefabricated steel buildings. -Lead-men lead small groups of workers on specific tasks and installations on specific tasks and installations safely, skillfully, efficiently, and on schedule. This position is an important step on the path to becoming a Foreman, and requires leadership, mentoring abilities and a strong desire to learn.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or sufficient experience may be substituted for educational background.
  • 5 years trade experience and must have personally performed the duties being instructed to others with extensive knowledge and expertise in Pre- Engineered Steel Building Erection.
  • Proficient in using a cell phone, and company communication tools (e.g.,e-mail, internet, etc.)
  • OSHA 30 and First Aid Certified. Certified Aerial Platform and Forklift Operator.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license. Must be able to be insured on the company’s insurance policy as a driver for the company.
  • Must be able to receive instruction and supervision.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Building Component Knowledge – Demonstrates knowledge of all building components and proper installation procedures
  • Proficiency in Reading Construction Drawings/Plans - ability to read construction drawings/plans in order to carry out various construction tasks properly.
  • Ability to partner with others for guidance and confirmation when there is a perceived discrepancy.
  • Demonstrate plan coordination.
  • Proficiency in Work Plan Sequencing - Demonstrates ability to understand the proper timing of project tasks

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes safety as the utmost importance, even before production, and promotes a jobsite culture that makes safety the primary focus for all Employee-Owners at all times.
  • Assists the Superintendent or, at times, conducts frequent safety meetings, including but not limited to daily morning huddles and weekly “Toolbox Safety Talks.”
  • Completes all required and/or necessary safety-related reports and inspections, including but not limited to daily safety reports, daily Jobsite Safety Analyses ( JSAs), daily equipment inspections, and other periodic inspections of equipment, machinery, materials, and tools.
  • Communicates and enforces safety procedures and site rules.
  • Assists the Superintendent in coaching, translating, and administering disciplinary actions with Employee-Owners for safety infractions, adhering to company progressive disciplinary action procedures.
  • Provides support to the Superintendent in investigating and documenting safety infractions.
  • Responsible for directing crew to complete work in accordance with OSHA and Company safety policies and regulations, as well as any site-specific requirements.
  • Fully understands and shares a passion for the Company’s core values, vision, mission, and objectives.
  • Provides leadership and management to ensure that the vision, mission, and core values of the Company are put into practice.
  • Effectively motivates, directs, trains, and coaches Employee-Owners to substantively add value to our company labor pool.
  • Assists the Superintendent in successful and meaningful onboarding and training of field Employee-Owners, including but not limited to indoctrination from day one into the Company’s culture, particularly with respect to its safety culture.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of field Employee-Owners assigned, including but not limited to administering Company policies.
  • Supervises, trains, and leads crews and individual Employee-Owners throughout the duration of the project while constantly demonstrating proper procedures and promoting safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Is responsible for providing coaching and mentoring to Employee-Owners.
  • Responsible for directing crew to complete specific scope in adherence to project schedules/deadlines.
  • Is responsible for learning how to access site-specific and other relevant documents, in Procore and/or Autodesk.
  • Assists the Superintendent and Foreman in securing all equipment, safety material, and tools needed for the project.
  • Deciphers drawings and directs proper layout and placement of building components.
  • Plans, coordinates, and directs the day-to-day work and activities of small groups of workers in specific tasks.
  • Is responsible for organizing, maintaining, issuing, and managing tools and equipment on site, and effectively and timely communicating inventory needs to the Superintendent.
  • Regularly inspects work for quality and adherence to SPAN standard details, drawings, plans, and other relevant specifications and directives.
  • Anticipates problems and/or conflicts that may arise during phases of construction and proactively adjusts accordingly.
  • Regularly reviews updated and revised drawings and documents to ensure all new details are incorporated into the work plan.
  • In the absence and in support of the Superintendent, communicates and cooperates with inspectors coming to the jobsite, demonstrating knowledge of the project, relevant drawings, and the required inspections, and addresses any deficiencies found as a result of an inspection in a timely manner.
  • Assists Superintendent and Foreman in the timely completion of all open action items listed on inspection reports from the Quality Assurance department and any associated punch lists.
  • Assists Superintendent and Foreman with inspection, reconciliation, and inventory of tools, materials, and safety gear in preparation for the next project.
  • Endeavors to stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in the construction field.
  • Projects a positive image of the organization to Employee-Owners, clients, industry, and community.
  • Maintains a “value added” approach to all aspects and phases of construction projects.
  • Participates fully as a team member in building an atmosphere of openness, honesty, respect, cooperation, and accountability. Is visible, approachable, accountable, and available.
  • Performs other duties as required by circumstances or assigned by the Superintendent or Foreman.
