About The Position

At MacKay Sposito we believe great people build great communities—and that starts with hiring the right talent. 2IM Group LLC., is now a part of MacKay Sposito and we are seeking an entry-level Construction Inspector to join our team and gain experience in public roadway construction and maintenance. As a Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for physical on-site observation, documentation, and verification of construction projects throughout the Chicagoland area to assess and ensure compliance with applicable contract plans and specifications, and applicable codes and regulations. Typical project assignments include asphalt and concrete paving, structural concrete, retaining and barrier walls, barricades, guardrails, fences, utilities, sewer systems, earthwork, mowing, herbiciding and bridge construction. The position will require taking the IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities course. A valid Illinois driver's license and Personal Protective Equipment (steel-toe work boots, work pants, work shirt, prescription safety glasses, cold-weather gear, and hearing protection) will be required of the applicant. The applicant will need to be capable of traversing rough and/or hilly terrain on foot as well as standing outdoors in varying temperatures, ranging from very cold to very hot, for long durations. Company-provided PPE includes a vehicle with safety lights, safety vest, and a hard hat. Field measuring equipment will be provided.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read, understand, and verify the implementation of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to be insured to drive company vehicles.
  • Must be able to walk, lift, carry, stoop, bend, twist, and work outdoors on uneven surfaces routinely. Site visits may include exposure to weather extremes and rough or uneven terrain.
  • The ability to use smartphone applications for mapping and GIS is required
  • Advanced mathematical abilities and use of geometry to calculate areas, volumes, and distances in the field and on documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology or NICET Certification (Construction) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor construction daily for conformance with construction contract documents.
  • Observe and report on a variety of work, including installation of highway road improvements, underground utilities, traffic and erosion control, and building facilities.
  • Review schedules, shop drawings, submittals and schedule of values while consulting with a construction manager.
  • Prepare daily reports completely and accurately, documenting all work observed.
  • Attend various construction meetings, as required.
  • Manage and answer contractor inquiries and issues.
  • Communicate and follow up on the project's progress with oral and/or written reports, including pertinent pictures, to the construction manager.
  • Responsible for job-specific quality assurance tasks.
  • Tracking labor and equipment for possible T&M contract work.
