Inspects Public Works construction projects for regulatory compliance; monitors jobsite safety; prepares and maintains inspection reports; reviews construction plans and specifications; investigates public complaints regarding construction projects; and performs other related duties as assigned. Examples of Duties: Conducts preliminary, concurrent, and final inspections of construction project work performed by contractors and City work crews. Monitors streets, water, wastewater, surface drainage, sidewalks, and drive approaches for proper workmanship, regulatory compliance, and adherence to City quality standards. Coordinates the testing of water/sanitary mains, manholes, and asphalt/concrete paving; reviews and interprets test results. Obtains photographic records regarding various stages of construction work; prepares and maintains inspection records and reports; advises supervisory personnel regarding project issues. Signs-off on project completions; oversees and coordinates construction closeout activities; verifies and authorizes contractor payments as necessary. Reviews pre-construction plans and specifications submitted by developers, builders, and utility and street contractors; evaluates and provides change order recommendations. Meets with design professionals and/or contractors to discuss and comment on design intent and modifications to project plans and specifications prior to bidding. Provides technical guidance to contractors regarding construction methods, phasing, and public safety during projects. Coordinates with contractors, developers, outside agencies, property owners, and City departments regarding construction project activities. Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints pertaining to Public Works construction projects. Provides contractors, departmental staff, and the public with engineering and technical information orally and in writing. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
