About The Position

Our Northern California Construction Management Team has an opportunity for a talented Construction Inspector to work on assignments in the Northern Sacramento Valley, Yuba City, Chico and surrounding areas. About being our Construction Inspector - Water/Wastewater As our Inspector, you will observe and document the daily construction of various municipal water/wastewater projects to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and codes while adhering to safety practices. Our Inspectors are team players and must understand client goals, establish and maintain effective client relationships, and help develop others on the team. Our Inspectors work in the field at active project sites; therefore, candidates must reside locally and/or be able to make the daily commute. You may observe and inspect a combination of civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural elements. We anticipate our Construction Inspector work an average of eight to ten months per year, depending on seasonal conditions and workload demands, which may consist of occasional night and weekend work.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education for general public works assignments
  • 5+ years of experience inspecting heavy civil projects for public agencies, municipalities, and/or a background that includes general civil infrastructure, public works and/or underground construction
  • Knowledge of the construction process and the ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications and ability to exercise independent judgement in day-to-day interpretation of standards and specifications
  • Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills including fluency with Microsoft programs and construction management software. Ability to use laptops and iPads in the field.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision and manage deadlines
  • Ability to work on an active construction site, including walking over uneven terrain, climbing ladders, crawling, stooping and entering confined spaces, being outdoors in inclement weather, wearing proper safety equipment, and practicing industry safety protocols

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • Certification from ICC in reinforced concrete and/or prior experience as an ACI concrete field testing technician, and/or other Construction/Project Management certifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of Local Agency standards, specifications, and construction manuals
  • Prior experience working on water, recycled water, and wastewater projects for local municipalities

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily site inspection and observations to verify compliance with the approved plans, specifications, codes, and inform team of possible changed conditions.
  • Measure quantities of work for payment purposes and collect material tickets for all materials delivered to the jobsite and incorporated into the work.
  • Prepare and maintain daily reports, including taking photos and taking measurements, calculations, computation of quantities, and reviewing the contractor's schedule progress.
  • Coordinate activities with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, designers, and regulatory agencies and support Labor Compliance efforts.
  • Observe and document demolition, structural rehab, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, mechanical equipment, underground or above ground pipeline, and electrical installation.
  • Review contractor stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and report per local jurisdiction requirements.
  • Coordinate field special inspections for material sampling and testing; coordinate with the contractor for planning and scheduling required inspections; verify field surveys.
  • Review and provide input on potential change order issues, track and record disputed work, and/or change order work; assist with monthly pay estimates.

  • Competitive compensation. Prevailing Wage Group 2 base pay for Northern California is $61.39/hour. Actual pay varies but is generally higher than the base pay for prevailing wage work. General prevailing wage determination made by the Director of Industrial Relations pursuant to California Labor Code part 7, chapter 1, article 2, sections 1770, 1773 and 1773.1 for commercial building, highway, heavy construction and dredging projects.
