About The Position

The City of O'Fallon is seeking a skilled and motivated Construction Inspector to join our team. We have the flexibility to hire at Level I or Level II , based on your experience, certifications, and qualifications. This position ensures that construction projects meet all applicable codes, standards, and regulations, contributing to the safety and quality of our community's infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Construction Inspector I High school diploma or equivalent, plus specialized training in construction or engineering-related fields.
  • One (1) year of experience in construction or a related field (degree in construction, engineering, or similar may substitute for experience).
  • Certification as an ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I , or ability to obtain within one (1) year.
  • Valid Missouri driver's license (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to obtain appropriate state certifications for inspections conducted.
  • Construction Inspector II Meets all requirements of Level I, plus:
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in construction or a related field with two (2) years experience as a construction inspector
  • Advanced certifications such as APWA CPII certification, ACI Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector certification
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of certifications, with ability to obtain certifications within one (1) year

Responsibilities

  • Review construction plans and specifications for compliance, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Inspect development and capital improvement projects, including water distribution systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm sewers, earthwork, traffic control, erosion/siltation control, roadway and bridge construction.
  • Make field decisions related to construction practices, safety, and quality of work.
  • Communicate and coordinate with contractors, project managers, other departments, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Review contractor invoices, shop drawings, test reports, and other project-related submittals.
  • Perform plan reviews for code compliance, issue permits, and inspect utility excavation, lot final, and driveway permits.
  • Verify work completion in accordance with escrow agreements.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, including measurements and documentation.
  • Respond to public inquiries and concerns professionally.
  • Assist with inventory data collection for contract documents and departmental initiatives.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment; assist with snow removal operations as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
