About The Position

This is an intermediate-level inspection position involving the continuous on-site inspection of municipal-type construction of new facilities for the Authority with the purpose of determining that such facilities are completed in accordance with the details of the plans and specifications. Work may be assigned by the Construction Inspector Supervisor or Construction Inspector II.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four years of on-the-job training with four years in construction-related work.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Basic math.
  • This position performs duties with minimal supervision and is responsible for its own work.
  • Must possess the ability to recognize potential problems through various testing methods and correct or notify appropriate personnel.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with contractors and co-workers.

Nice To Haves

  • Sixty college credit hours in the field of math and/or physics is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects the construction of all new facilities for the Authority for the purpose of determining that such facilities are completed in accordance with the plans and specifications.
  • Coordinates various tests of material and equipment such as concrete slump test, compression test, and soil density test where needed.
  • Advises the Construction Inspector II or the Construction Inspector Supervisor when corrections are not made by the contractor.
  • Keeps a daily log of all activities, weather conditions, quantities of work, etc. The daily log must be annotated daily in the project management system online and submitted to the immediate supervisor each day for review and publishing to the project site. A hardcopy of the written daily log may be kept by each inspector in a provided the hardcopy does not contain entries in conflict with what is kept online. Daily log activities should include quantities installed, crew members present, the weather at the beginning and end of each workday, equipment on-site, equipment used that day, testing that took place that day, and any discrepancies that were identified that day.
  • Verifies the quantity of work accomplished on each monthly estimate, sign and recommend for payment.
  • Remains available to the Contractor during all working hours for the purpose of resolving questions that may arise concerning the details of construction. May require extended work hours and weekend work hours.
  • Ensures that construction activities are confined to certified easements or project sites and that special conditions of easement grants are fulfilled.
  • When necessary, reviews contractor’s weekly payrolls and interviews contractor’s employees for compliance with Davis-Beacon requirements.
  • Coordinates contractor’s activities with project plant operations.
  • Reviews contract documents.
  • Employees assigned to this position are classified as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to report to work when scheduled during departmental and/or emergency situations including, but not limited to, extended periods of inclement weather when travel may be difficult. This position is essential because in the absence of sufficient personnel, the plant cannot operate safely.
