About The Position

Construction Crew Member – HVAC & MEP supports SGV Habitat’s new construction, rehabilitation, and repair projects with a primary focus on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) work, including HVAC installation and support. This position is not limited to HVAC work and also assists with plumbing, electrical, and general construction activities as needed. Working closely with the Construction Site Supervisor, Project Manager, and construction staff, this role contributes to the successful daily operations of active job sites. A key component of this position includes assisting with the coordination, guidance, and support of volunteers and future homeowners working alongside staff to advance SGV Habitat’s mission.

Requirements

  • Completion of a construction, HVAC, or building trades training program, such as a trade school, technical institute, community college program, or apprenticeship
  • Experience in construction, HVAC, MEP, or a related skilled trade environment
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, standing for extended periods of time, and working at heights, in confined spaces, and on active construction job sites, including ladders and roofs.
  • Ability to maintain a safe construction site in accordance with CAL-OSHA standards, including proper use of PPE
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet project schedules and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with supervisors, team members, and volunteers
  • Understanding of and commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s mission and volunteer-based construction model

Responsibilities

  • Assist with residential HVAC installation, including ductwork, equipment placement, and related components
  • Support plumbing and electrical installation activities under supervision
  • Assist licensed trades and construction staff with MEP-related tasks
  • Perform digging, trenching, and site preparation for MEP installations
  • Assist with general construction tasks when MEP work is not being performed, including: framing, drywall installation and repair, flooring installation, general site labor and cleanup.
  • Assist in loading, unloading, staging, and transporting materials, tools, and equipment between job sites and warehouse locations
  • Provide guidance, instruction, and support to volunteers and future homeowners performing MEP-related or general construction tasks
  • Assist the Construction Site Supervisor with volunteer check-in and ensure volunteers have appropriate tools and safety equipment
  • Help conduct safety briefings and task instructions for volunteers prior to beginning work
  • Monitor volunteer work throughout the day to ensure safety protocols and work standards are followed
