About The Position

As the Construction Controller, you will be responsible for contributing to the financial performance of EMBREY’s construction projects through the effective review and management of actual versus budgeted costs, buyout savings, and forecasts. This position will also ensure that Payments to Subcontractors are made timely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in construction accounting or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Yardi, Procore Pay, and Textura
  • In-depth knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, and project-based accounting
  • Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CMFA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the construction team in achieving profit and overhead objectives by ensuring all budgeted items and forecasted costs are accurately reflected across systems and reconciling discrepancies between systems.
  • Mitigate risk for EMBREY by managing the construction team’s budget and reforecast reporting processes, and identifying and resolving control gaps.
  • Coordinate budget workflow procedures between the construction and accounting teams to ensure seamless financial operations.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Construction Accounting Team and Project Teams to ensure draws are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Prepare and maintain weekly subcontractor payment schedules to guarantee timely payments.
  • Coach Construction Project Teams on accounting responsibilities and uphold the necessary segregation of duties.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Construction Department and other teams to ensure budget creation and updates adhere to best practices.
  • Deliver financial decision support to the EVP of Construction and CFO, including detailed analysis of time versus cost scenarios.
  • Design and maintain internal controls tailored to construction accounting processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for construction accounting policies and procedures.
  • Develop executive-level dashboards summarizing cost performance, contingency usage, fee projections, and cash flow.
  • Conduct cash flow forecasting to support strategic planning.
  • Lead lender reporting meetings, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee evaluation and optimization of construction financial systems (e.g., Yardi, Procore).
