About The Position

Construction Building Inspector II conducts on-site inspections of new building construction or renovation projects of lead contaminated residential and multi-family homes to ensure contract and specification compliance or to conduct energy audits/quality control inspections. Work involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional work week, but may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday hours on a 24-hour on-call basis. Work is performed at residential properties and construction sites where incumbents may encounter dust, mud, noise, heights, hazardous materials, confined workspaces and inclement weather conditions. Work requires moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking and crouching at building work sites.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Five years of experience in one of the building trades or in building and construction inspection work or lead abatement inspection.
  • Positions in the Department of Housing & Community Development Lead Hazard Reduction Program requires that you must have and maintain certification as a Risk Assessor issued by the Maryland Department of the Environment.
  • Positions in the Department of Housing & Community Development Weatherization Program require that you must obtain within twelve months of employment and maintain the following certifications: · BPI HEP Quality Control Inspector (QCI) Certification · BPI HEP Energy Auditor (EA) Certification
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and techniques of building and other structural construction work.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures including OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of construction codes and standards.
  • Ability to read, interpret and revise drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to conduct field inspections and make recommendations.
  • Mathematic ability.
  • Ability to interpret departmental standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, train and establish effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to maintain records and write reports.
