The Nature Conservancy is offering a paid STEP Internship in Virginia, designed to create pathways for individuals seeking experience in conservation. This program focuses on recruiting and developing a diverse staff, welcoming people from all backgrounds, experiences, and identities. STEP interns receive orientation, professional development webinars, and opportunities to visit TNC sites, broadening their experiences through interactions with staff and partners. At the internship's conclusion, interns will present on their time at TNC to the Virginia staff. This specific role is for an intern interested in data management, compliance, and project management within conservation. The intern will work closely with the Virginia Conservation Coordinator and Central Stewardship Team, assisting with tasks related to land management, hunt leases, agricultural data, and the land trust accreditation renewal process. The work will adhere to The Nature Conservancy’s standard operating procedures, Land Trust Alliance standards and practices, and government regulations, contributing to the protection of conservation values on over 65 nature preserves in Virginia. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an interest in conservation, possess project management abilities, technology proficiency, attention to detail, high organization, and flexibility. This is a part-time, four-month role, requiring active enrollment in a 2- or 4-year institution. Preference is given to candidates in the Charlottesville area. The internship involves 150 total hours, worked part-time between August and December, with specific schedules determined upon hiring. The pay is $18.25/hour, and the location is a hybrid schedule (80% remote, 20% in-person in Charlottesville, VA).
