About The Position

The Connected Vehicle Technician (CVT) is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, salvage, and inventory of our Intelligent Transit System’s vehicular hardware and software components. The selected individual will work under general supervision from the CVT Manager/Supervisor with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • An associate degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent training and work experience in electronics technology/repair, telecommunications, or a related field is required.
  • 3+ years of verifiable professional experience with 12-volt automotive electrical and electronic systems and/or P25/Land Mobile Radio systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license.
  • Basic understanding of low voltage DC or vehicle electrical/electronic systems.
  • Moderate knowledge and understanding of current IT applications and trends.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle electronics installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
  • Intermediate understanding of vehicle electrical schematics.
  • Ability to use essential tools including, but not limited to, the following: screwdriver, drill, volt/Ohm meter, saw, pliers, sockets, wrenches, wire strippers, wire crimpers.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in the organization in person, and by phone, e-mail, and written correspondence.

  • Ability to make decisions and problem-solve.
  • Proven knowledge of electronic installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.

  • Intermediate understanding of vehicle electrical schematics.
  • Basic cellular/wireless network proficiency.
  • Basic proficiency with computers, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks and time effectively.
  • Ability to adjust priorities quickly.
  • Organized with the ability to perform focused work with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-oriented office environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in one or more of the following fields is preferred: Telecommunications, Home Theater/Automation, Security Systems, CCTV/Video Surveillance Systems, HVAC, and Radio/Vehicle Electronic Installations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical certifications in one or more of the following are preferred: MECP Certification(s), CET Certification(s), Motorola LMR and/or P25 Certification(s), CompTIA A+ Certification, NCTI/SCTE Certification(s), FCC GROL License, FCC Amateur Radio License.
  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License with airbrake and passenger endorsement and current CDL physical preferred, but not required (company will train for CDL).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain the Intelligent Transit System (ITS) CAD/AVL vehicle equipment and software configuration on all revenue and non-revenue fleets.
  • Install, maintain, program, and repair mobile computers (vehicle logic unit) and data terminals, automated passenger counters, public address systems, LED signage, LTE cellular devices, GPS location systems, mobile voice, and data radios, antenna and coax assemblies, and video surveillance systems.
  • Manage inventory of all proprietary CAD/AVL hardware, as well as related general hardware.
  • Follow standardized procedures for warranty returns, tracking, and receipt of proprietary hardware.
  • Assist with procurement of proprietary and general new equipment, including miscellaneous hardware.
  • Manage all proprietary CAD/AVL mobile software versions and configurations, including upgrades.
  • Use proprietary back-end software applications for system monitoring and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Document all installation, salvage, troubleshooting, and repair efforts.
  • Follow standardized procedures for bench testing equipment reported as faulty.
  • Act as a technical liaison for other departments requiring technical assistance for systems that work with CVT technology.
  • Perform periodic trend analysis to identify and address recurring problems.
  • Provide support to other IndyGo departments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with IndyGo’s strategic goals.
