About The Position

The Congenital Heart Center (CHC) at Michigan Medicine seeks a motivated and detail-oriented temporary staff member to support the M-COPE (University of Michigan Congenital Heart Center Psychosocial and Education) Program. The M-COPE Program leads clinical and research programs specific to the psychosocial, emotional, and educational needs of young people with heart conditions and their families. The successful candidate will provide integral support across program coordination, research initiatives, and resource development to enhance services for patients and families receiving care in the CHC.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in or completion of bachelor's degree program (preferably in psychology, education, medicine, public health, allied health, or a related field).
  • Interest in pediatric/adult congenital heart disease, psychosocial support, and patient/family education.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Basic experience with literature/research databases (e.g., PubMed), citation management tools, and/or Excel.
  • Ability to collaborate professionally with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting or patient support role
  • Experience working with children, young adults, or families
  • Formal research experience and training (e.g., IRBs, research ethics)
  • Experience with electronic medical record and EMR-based tools
  • Familiarity with event planning and/or educational programming

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing special events, workshops, and psychosocial initiatives for the CHC, especially those led by the M-COPE team. Examples include the peer mentoring program, bereavement committee, and the Book Babies initiative.
  • Generate, assemble, and distribute educational and outreach materials related to psychosocial and educational support programming.
  • Act as a liaison and bridge between CHC administrative staff, CHC research program (M-CHORD), and the M-COPE team.
  • Conduct literature searches in areas relevant to psychosocial and educational interventions in congenital heart disease.
  • Assist with reference and citation management using software such as EndNote or Zotero.
  • Aid in creating and maintaining research databases, including data entry and verification.
  • Provide research support to M-COPE team as needed, under the direction of CHC faculty and research staff.
  • Help curate, organize, and maintain resources (written, digital, and/or physical) for patient and family education.
  • Coordinate updating and distribution of psychosocial support materials to patients and clinical partners.
  • Work closely with M-COPE, CHC, and other collaborating teams to ensure projects and events run smoothly.
  • Participate in team meetings, take notes/minutes, and follow up on action items as needed.
