About The Position

The Configuration Control Manager is responsible for leading and maintaining configuration management processes that support Project Management, Engineering, Planning, Scheduling, Procurement, and Operations. This role ensures all configuration data is accurate and aligned to support planning, material flow, and on time project execution. This position owns the integrity of all product master data, including part numbers, Bills of Materials (BOMs), routing’s, and Configuration Control work instructions, ensuring the system drives demand, material allocation, and production correctly against project timelines. The role works closely with Engineering and cross functional teams to ensure configurations and changes are properly structured and executed in the system, with materials, labor, and routing aligned to the schedule. The Configuration Control Manager is also responsible for building and leading a team of Configuration Control Specialists, while establishing standard processes that support accurate MRP signals, efficient production flow, and scalable operations.

  • Engineering degree in a technical discipline such as Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred, or equivalent practical experience in configuration management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years total experience in Product Development & Production Roles (Development, Test, CM, QA/QC, Assembly).
  • 7+ years exclusive experience in formalized Configuration Management roles.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing environments that produce OEM type products.
  • Knowledge of product based (electrical, mechanical, Fabrication, Multiple relationships) Configuration Management principles.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing Configuration Management strategies and systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Product Development and Manufacturing disciplines.
  • Self-motivated individuals that can work independently under general supervision and guidance.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with ability to perform varied tasks in a disciplined and consistent manner.
  • Capable of providing input and guidance on methods that will increase efficiency (advanced tools and techniques).
  • Ability to quickly grasp new technologies while adapting to frequent changes in assignment and business direction.
  • Capable of representing Configuration Management interests at interdepartmental meetings.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in technical disciplines such as Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • 10+ years total experience in Product Development/Manufacturing roles (Development, Test, CM, QA/QC, Assembly).
  • 7+ years exclusive experience in formalized Configuration Management roles.
  • Experience with PDM systems such as SolidWorks.
  • 5 years’ experience creating BOM’s (Degree may be substituted with 5 years’ experience working with and creating BOM’s).
  • MRP / ERP systems, Infor LN preferred but not required Bill of Material generation.

Responsibilities

  • Configuration Strategy & Team Leadership Build, lead, and develop a scalable team of Configuration Control Specialists to support increasing product complexity and volume.
  • Establish standardized processes, governance, and KPIs for configuration control across all programs and sites.
  • Drive accountability across teams to ensure configuration data is accurate, complete, and maintained in real time.
  • Partner with Process Improvement to continuously refine workflows, eliminate gaps, and improve data integrity across systems.
  • BOM Governance & Master Data Integrity Own end to end lifecycle of Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring they are accurate, complete, and maintained under strict revision control.
  • Implement processes to ensure all BOMs reflect current engineering design, material requirements, and production needs while enforcing the ECN/ECR process.
  • Audit and validate BOM structures regularly to eliminate errors, duplicates, and misalignments.
  • Ensure proper use of phantom assemblies, subassemblies, and structure optimization to streamline production and planning.
  • Drive alignment between engineering releases and system BOMs to eliminate disconnects between design and execution.
  • Routings & Operational Alignment Ensure all routings are fully built out and maintained, including correct operation sequences, work centers, and cycle times.
  • Validate that routing accurately reflects how work is executed on the floor.
  • Ensure materials are tied to the correct operation so that materials can be batched and sent to the floor per production needs.
  • System Accuracy Driving MRP & Demand Ensure all configuration data (BOMs, routings, lead times, work centers) is set up correctly in the ERP system to drive accurate MRP signals.
  • Work closely with Planning and Procurement to ensure system data supports correct material allocation, timing, and sourcing decisions.
  • Drive improvements that ensure material demand is triggered to the correct operation, location, and timing.
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering to continuously improve routings for efficiency and throughput.
  • Maintain accurate lead times and queue times to support realistic scheduling and capacity planning.
  • Cross Functional Integration Work directly with Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Scheduling, Planning and Operations to ensure full alignment across all product data.
  • Act as the central point of coordination between design intent and production execution.
  • Ensure all configuration changes are communicated clearly and implemented seamlessly across all impacted teams.
  • Support Project Management in evaluating impacts of configuration changes to cost, schedule, and execution.
  • Change Management & Governance Chair a small cross-functional team (Eng., Ops, PM, PC) that meet regularly to review change requests (Internal and External).
  • Assign priority for review within queue.
  • Perform impact analysis on material, labor, cost, and schedule prior to implementation.
  • Ensure all approved changes are executed in the system accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain full traceability of revisions.
  • Engineering & Drawing Release Control Ensure all drawings are reviewed, accurate, and aligned with system data prior to release.
  • Manage transition from prerelease to production ready documentation.
  • Work with Engineering and production to resolve discrepancies and improve manufacturability.
  • Capture “as-built” feedback from production.
  • Process Standardization & Documentation Develop and enforce standardized procedures for configuration management.
  • Ensure all processes are documented, repeatable, and scalable.
  • Close gaps in communication and handoff processes between departments.
  • All other duties as assigned by TAS.
