Job Description: Project-Based Role: This is a project based position with an anticipated duration of 5+ months. Location: Santa Fe, NM Compensation: The annual salary for this position starts at $60,629.00. Compensation may vary based on candidate location and experience. Job Summary: Are you a “multidimensional” creative with solid experience producing 2D and 3D concept art and renderings? Join the multiverse of Meow Wolf and its growing Visual Development team as a Concept Artist, where you’ll primarily focus on projects for our new exhibitions and Blue Sky endeavors. This versatile role will collaborate closely with Creative Directors and Artists to visually realize compelling and descriptive visualizations and ideation for all forms of art and entertainment design, such as immersive spaces, narrative-based projects (character development, prop design, scenic, vehicle, environmental design, etc.), and a variety of other Meow Wolf-created content. Additionally, there may be opportunities for the Concept Artist to create renderings for Meow Wolf’s marketing, merchandising, and operations teams. Concept Artists work across multiple departments to maintain consistent aesthetics and feeling throughout each part of a project. The Concept Artist will be adept at working in many styles, acting as a conduit for visualization and articulation, taking ideas from Creative Directors and Artists and representing those ideas in a format that responds to the most immediate needs of project development. A Concept Artist will use their rendering and modeling skills to help visualize an Artist or Creative Director’s vision as well as to convey a sense of emotion. It is essential that a Concept Artist is proud of their work, but not necessarily attached to a particular direction. Concept Artists provide preliminary option paths for Creative Directors and Artists. As those paths narrow and direction comes into focus, those works become more refined and pass on to the next stage. Concept Artists will work in both analog and digital media according to the objectives of each project. Candidates must be self-motivated, organized, resourceful, and capable of working collaboratively with directors, artists, designers, and other creatives on projects at multiple scales and varied artistic objectives.

Requirements

You bring 5+ years of experience working in a creative or design environment.
You come with 2 + years of experience in 2D and 3D concept art and visualizations in a professional capacity.
You preferably come from themed entertainment, the film industry, rendering spaces, or a comic book background.
You come with industry knowledge on materiality and production methods.
You are well-versed in working with print and digital formats.
You have the ability to stay focused under pressure, including prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
You are able to drive the improvement of the company's graphics standards and be a self-starter.
You come with a portfolio of professional design work that demonstrates skills and experience as a Concept Artist, as well as a keen visual aesthetic.
You are collaborative, open-minded, and come with excellent communication skills.
You will create 2D and 3D concepts, renderings, and designs to help visualize the art and creative direction of Meow Wolf’s new exhibitions and creative initiatives, thereby contributing to a spectacular immersive experience for our guests.

Responsibilities

Develop descriptive 2D and 3D concept art, digital models, and renderings for communicating with art, design, and other creative teams.
Represent other artists’ ideas in a variety of styles and methods according to the project’s directives and/or development needs.
Assist in live visualization during meetings and ideations, converting verbal ideas into visuals.
Create detailed storyboards for a variety of animated and live-action productions.
Develop detailed character sheets and undertake pre-viz for animation
Manage multiple tasks and make solution-driven decisions in a fast-paced work environment
Adhere to tight schedules with minimal supervision and work well under pressure.
Collaborate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams, including Creative Directors, Artists, fellow concept artists, marketing, merchandise, and operations.
