The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be a spacecraft systems COMSEC engineer, influencing system design, capturing requirements, and ensuring customer and US Government compliance across multiple Blue Ring programs. Space Communication Security (COMSEC) engineers are bridging the gap between advanced aerospace engineering and national security protocols. These professionals, design, implement, and secure, data-in-transit solutions for space systems, including satellite communications, ground stations, and launch vehicles.

Requirements

  • Security Clearance: Active Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in software, computer engineering, electrical engineering, other technical degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience: 3+ years specifically with COMSEC materials and secure communication systems.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with NSA High Assurance encryption devices and secure protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Authored key management plans for space programs
  • Demonstrated positive relationships with US Government customers
  • Experience working National Security Space programs

Responsibilities

  • Crypto Engineering: Designing and implementing cryptographic systems and securing communication links for space assets.
  • COMSEC Management: Developing the documentation required for the handling, safeguarding, and inventory of classified COMSEC equipment (e.g., NSA High Assurance devices like KG-505s, KI-700s and KG-255XJs).
  • Compliance: Ensuring adherence to NSA, CNSSI, and NISPOM regulations for SCI and SAP activities.
  • System Security Architecture: Developing secure, resilient, and anti-jamming communication systems.
  • Key Management: Working with the Cryptographic Network Controlling Authority (CONAUTH) and assisting with procedure development on using fill devices like an SKL.
