About The Position

Lawerence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has multiple internship opportunities in collaboration with the GEM Fellowship Graduate Program. These positions are designed specifically for participants in the National GEM Consortium, offering invaluable hands-on experience in practical research to support their educational and career goals. Selected interns will play a key role in providing technical and/or research support to projects in areas such as computational science, cyber defense, computer science, numerical methods, mathematics, and other related fields. You must be an active GEM Fellow upon the start of the internship.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). See Additional Information section below for details.
  • Must be a continuing Master's or Ph.D.-level student in good standing at a university approved by the GEM consortium and accepted into GEM fellowship program.
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or other related fields.
  • Ability to apply basic computational science and/or mathematical principles to solve technical problems.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with overcoming adversity.
  • Must have GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and/or research support to projects in the areas of computational science, numerical methods, mathematics, or other related fields, working with scientists, engineers, and technical staff members.
  • Participate in research in assigned area under close supervision.
  • Gather and analyze data and information in support of scientific research.
  • Participate in research planning and evaluation discussion.
  • Attend relevant on-site seminars (at least one per week).
  • Participate in end-of-summer poster presentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
