About The Position

The Computer Systems Administrator at Great Plains Health serves as the primary technical resource for all networks, digital security, phone systems, and server infrastructure, supporting the organization's information systems. This role involves the selection, implementation, and testing of local and wide-area network software and hardware components, as well as overseeing the implementation and testing of Windows, Unix, and Linux server-based applications. The Administrator maintains Firewalls, network appliances, security devices, Storage Area Networks, and converged infrastructure, and coordinates on-site performance tuning for local fiber optic and wide-area networks and server-based applications. A key accountability is ensuring the stability and reliability of GP Health’s computer infrastructure. Administrators provide technical perspective on installation and maintenance requirements, identify and resolve technical problems with servers, Storage Area Networks, tape libraries, network switching equipment, operating systems, and applications. They work collaboratively to offer technical and operational leadership, and are responsible for providing technical training, documentation, and cross-training for all supported systems. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, electrical engineering, or equivalent in education/experience.
  • Formal technical training regarding the installation and support of Microsoft Windows domains, IP networking, and multiple years of experience as a computer systems technician such that technical knowledge of networks and personal computer systems can be demonstrated.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for all networks, digital security, phone systems, and server infrastructure in support of Great Plains Health's information systems.
  • Perform activities related to the selection, implementation, and testing of local and wide-area network software and hardware components.
  • Oversee the implementation and testing of Windows, Unix, and Linux server-based applications.
  • Maintain Firewalls, network appliances, security devices, Storage Area Networks, and converged infrastructure.
  • Coordinate on-site performance tuning for the local fiber optic and wide-area networks and the server-based applications.
  • Be accountable for the stability and reliability of GP Health’s computer infrastructure.
  • Provide a clear technical perspective on the installation and maintenance requirements of the hospital's information systems.
  • Identify and resolve technical problems with servers, Storage Area Networks, tape libraries, the local and wide-area network switching equipment, operating systems, and the applications installed at Great Plains Health.
  • Provide technical and operational leadership for the organization’s computer infrastructure.
  • Provide technical training, documentation and cross training for all supported systems.
  • Communicate effectively and openly in operations activities.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, diplomacy, and tact in interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Follow the customer service guidelines established by the organization.
  • Foster trust in relationships with workforce members.
  • Plan, implement, integrate, protect and maintain local area, wireless and wide area network-related resources.
  • Review and analysis of audits, logs, and metric reports to monitor the performance and quality of the organization's multiple network infrastructures.
  • Create and verify server and device configuration backups.
  • Provide technical analysis and support for the server-based applications integrated into business operations.
  • Implement network server systems as directed by management.
  • Be responsible for security (system, file, data, and user) of applications and their hardware platforms.
  • Provide documentation, procedures, information, and guidance to IS customers throughout the design, selection, installation, and implementation of computer systems.
  • Work with workforce members in the development of long- and short-range computer system infrastructure plans that support the mission, values and goals of the organization.
  • Monitor changes in technology.
  • Recommend system improvements based on monitoring activity.
  • Attend training as directed.
  • Research solutions to configuration and setup issues.
  • Create solutions using existing software and hardware tool set.
  • Participate in disaster recovery drills.
  • Participate in the budget process by tracking needs and facilitating cost quotations.
  • Create equipment orders as necessary.
  • Cross train other computer systems administrators.
  • Follow hospital rules, policies, and procedures as well as applicable laws and standards including those that are established for safe patient care and prompt reporting of patient safety issues and errors.
