About The Position

The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at The University of Texas at Austin is one of the leading supercomputing centers in the world, supporting advances in computational research by thousands of researchers and students. TACC staff help researchers and educators use advanced computing, visualization, and storage technologies effectively, and conduct research and development to make these technologies more powerful, more reliable, and easier to use. The position will work with the EPIC/WeTeach_CS team to create and deliver professional development to K-12 educators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 8 years of experience developing and conducting training programs.
  • Certified teacher.
  • Experience teaching K-12 computer science, artificial intelligence, and/or cybersecurity.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental programming concepts and the ability to teach pseudocode interpretation and coding basics across various languages.
  • Dynamic communicator capable of creating and delivering engaging, motivational presentations and effectively teaching complex concepts to various audiences, including beginners.
  • Experience developing or delivering computer science instructional resources for K-12 educators/students.
  • Experience providing differentiated instruction that meets the needs of a variety of students.
  • Ability to foster open and constructive dialogues with educators, promoting understanding and collaboration on topics related to effective pedagogy, differentiated instruction, belonging in STEM, embracing differences, and broadening participation in computing education.
  • Ability to manage a project with responsibilities shared across internal and external team members; ability to work effectively when under pressure and with tight timelines; flexibility and ability to continuously improve methods and procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% time (All travel costs are covered by The University of Texas at Austin)
  • Ability and willingness to shift work schedule to support or manage professional learning in afternoons, evenings, and weekends to accommodate teacher participants.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience facilitating professional development.
  • Experience using Canvas as a learning management system.
  • Experience creating and delivering both online and in-person professional development to K-12 computer science teachers.
  • Certification in CS 8-12 (TExES 241, PRAXIS 5652, or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in working with the Google and Microsoft Office suites and the ability to quickly learn how to use other communication and productivity tools.

Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver both in-person and virtual WeTeach_CS professional development focused on computer science, computational thinking, cybersecurity, data science, and/or artificial intelligence.
  • Mentor and support teachers preparing for various computing teacher certification exams.
  • Represent EPIC at educational conferences, presenting sessions highlighting our professional development and other resources.
  • Collaborate with local and regional computing leaders to remain abreast of resources and policy decisions regarding CS standards that affect WeTeach_CS.
