About The Position

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections has the mission of improving the sexual health of all New Yorkers. To achieve this the Bureau provides direct clinic services to people seeking sexual health care, and services to sex partners; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to providers and community groups, conducts research and develop policies to improve sexual health and wellness. The Bureau of Public Health Clinics seeks to hire a Computer Informatics Analyst. This individual will report directly to the Director of Clinical Informatics and conduct data analyses to track user behavior, identify workflow inefficiencies, and generate actionable insights to improve clinical operations.

Requirements

  • For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have: 1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  • 2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  • 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above.
  • Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL and data analysis using R or SAS; experience developing and managing workflows in REDCap; familiarity with EMR systems.
  • Knowledge and experiences with HL7 are a plus
  • Experience: Prior experience supporting clinical staff or end users in healthcare IT, data collection, or clinical informatics projects is preferred.
  • Core Competencies: Highly organized, detail-oriented, strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Other: Ability to manage multiple tasks, work collaboratively across clinical and technical teams, and translate data insights into actionable recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline support to clinical staff for the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), troubleshooting issues and guiding workflow adoption
  • Design, implement, and maintain data collection frameworks using REDCap and EMR data sources to support clinical programs, quality improvement, and research activities.
  • Conduct descriptive and exploratory data analyses using SQL, R, or SAS to assess system utilization, clinical workflow patterns, and user behavior.
  • Develop routine monitoring metrics, dashboards, and reports to evaluate EMR adoption, data completeness, and workflow performance over time.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities by defining indicators, tracking performance against benchmarks, and identifying trends or gaps in clinical operations.
  • Perform data validation, and quality assurance to ensure accuracy and reliability of EMR, Redcap and other data collection/documentation applications/tools
  • Contribute to research and evaluation efforts by preparing analytic datasets, conducting preliminary analyses, and supporting interpretation of findings.
  • Collaborate with clinical informatics, operational, and research stakeholders to translate data insights into actionable recommendations, trainings and workflow improvements.
  • Support documentation of data definitions, and evaluation findings to promote transparency, reproducibility, and knowledge sharing
  • Other tasks as assigned
