About The Position

PlanITROI is seeking a Computer Hardware Grading Technician to support our high-volume ITAD and refurbishment operations. This hands-on role is responsible for inspecting, testing, and grading IT hardware based on cosmetic condition and functional performance to determine resale value, refurbishment needs, or recycling disposition. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, consistent, and technically proficient, with a strong understanding of computer hardware and a commitment to accuracy and efficiency. This is a temporary-to-permanent opportunity with a 90-day conversion. Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Pay Rate: $15-$16 per hour

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience working with computer hardware or electronics (ITAD, refurbishment, repair, or warehouse environment)
  • CompTIA or A+ (or equivalent hardware knowledge)
  • Strong knowledge of laptops, desktops, tablets, and hardware components.
  • Exposure to quality standards or inspection processes
  • Ability to consistently apply cosmetic and functional grading standards.
  • High attention to detail with strong accuracy and consistency.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Basic computer skills and experience using inventory or tracking systems.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 35 lbs .
  • Reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cosmetic inspections of laptops, desktops, tablets, notebooks, monitors, and accessories.
  • Evaluate condition based on established grading standards (A/B/C/D or equivalent).
  • Identify scratches, dents, wear, cracks, missing parts, and other cosmetic defects.
  • Conduct basic functional testing, including power-on, display, keyboard, ports, battery health, and BIOS/POST checks.
  • Identify functional defects and performance issues impacting grade or disposition.
  • Assign accurate grades to determine device routing: resale, refurbishment, parts harvest, or recycling.
  • Clearly tag and document devices requiring repair or additional review.
  • Record grading results, defects, and notes accurately in inventory and tracking systems.
  • Ensure grading data aligns with physical device condition to prevent downstream errors.
  • Work closely with refurbishment technicians, QC Inspectors, and production leaders.
  • Escalate unusual defects, inconsistencies, or repeated issues to leadership.
  • Follow established grading procedures, quality standards, and data security requirements.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe workstation in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
