About The Position

This position involves producing computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of specific areas, adhering to established policies and procedures, and typically operating under general supervision. Key responsibilities include obtaining patient history, explaining standard procedures, and addressing patient concerns to ensure patient comfort and confidence. The technologist is responsible for operating and maintaining all assigned imaging department equipment, including tomography scanners, and preparing patients for diagnostic procedures by explaining the process and correctly positioning them for image capture. The role also requires the proper identification, preparation, and administration of medications within the technologist’s scope of practice as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner. Additionally, the technologist completes quality assurance processes, practices radiation safety to minimize exposure, maintains all required documentation in various formats, ensures an adequate supply of consumables, and performs routine maintenance and function checks on all imaging equipment. The technologist may also be required to assist other areas of radiology as assigned and perform other related duties.

Requirements

  • Certified as a Computed Tomography Technologist
  • If not CT Certified, cross training from another ARRT modality to become CT Certified within 12 months.
  • Graduation from an AMA-approved school of radiology technology
  • Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
  • Current BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.
  • Required for Lead: Certified as CT Technologist

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to patients and ensure the needs of individual patients are met.
  • Operates and maintains all assigned imaging department equipment including but not limited to tomography scanner equipment.
  • In addition to conducting scans, prepares patients for these diagnostic procedures by explaining the process and positioning patients to correctly capture the images requested by a physician.
  • Properly identifies, prepares and/or administers medications that are within the technologist’s scope of practice as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Completes quality assurance processes and practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self.
  • Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms and records in paper and electronic formats.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of all consumables to perform quality testing.
  • Performs all routine daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance and function checks following established protocol for all imaging equipment.
  • May assist other areas of radiology as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as required and directed.
