About The Position

The CSC Center Coordinator manages and advances the operational, programmatic, and intellectual work of the Vagelos Computational Science Center (CSC). The CSC champions the understanding and use of computation across disciplines, lowering barriers to entry, and expanding technical skills and digital literacy for the Barnard community and beyond. We take an intentionally broad and inclusive view of computing—one that values creativity, critical inquiry, and social responsibility. Our work comes to life through interactive workshops, student fellowship programs, public interest technology projects, roundtable discussions, publications, and partnerships across Barnard and with outside institutions. Together, these activities invite people from every field to explore how computing can inform research, teaching, and creative practice. The Center Coordinator is a central member of this mission-driven team, helping to execute and shape the CSC’s programming, communications, and partnerships—ensuring alignment with our mission and values. They bring experience in academic or nonprofit program coordination along with content knowledge or familiarity with computational methods, responsible technology, or issues of technology and society. Day to day, the Coordinator keeps the Center running smoothly. They organize events and workshops, oversee student fellows, manage budgets and schedules, and lead the Center’s communications and outreach. They work closely with Center leadership to plan new initiatives and ensure that the CSC has what it needs to thrive. With experience, the Coordinator will grow into a strategic partner and thought collaborator, contributing their own ideas and expertise to expand the Center’s reach and impact.

Requirements

Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
Excited to apply (or further develop) CSC-oriented content knowledge and abilities to shape Center programming in service of our larger mission.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including faculty, students, staff members, and external partners at all levels.
Proficiency with Workday (or similar), Google Suite, and Microsoft Office applications.
Proficiency with content management systems and design platforms, and willingness to learn new skills; for example, we currently use Drupal and Canva.
Proactive style with a knack for problem-solving and an enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced environment.
Proven ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a team.
Exceptional judgment.
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
2-3 years of academic or nonprofit coordination and/or program management experience

Responsibilities

Manage the Center’s day-to-day operations and logistics to ensure smooth functioning across all programs.
Oversee financial and hiring processes, including working in Workday and with HR to hire part-time staff, contractors, and student workers, and to process invoices, purchase orders, and reimbursements.
Maintain organized systems for scheduling, correspondence, and information sharing; collect and manage data for reports and assessments.
Plan and execute CSC workshops, roundtables, and special events from concept to completion.
Coordinate logistics for speakers, facilitators, and collaborators, including scheduling, travel, and event support.
Prioritize inquiries and requests, troubleshoot conflicts, and make informed recommendations to ensure seamless execution.
Oversee student fellows and assistants, ensuring alignment with event and program needs.
Lead Center communications and branding efforts, ensuring the CSC’s website, social media, and physical spaces are engaging, consistent, and up to date.
Coordinate publicity and outreach across the College, including social media campaigns, newsletters, flyers, and branded materials.
Maintain a strong, cohesive public image for the CSC that highlights its interdisciplinary, inclusive, and community-oriented work.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Directors.
