About The Position

The Compounder position requires the individual to perform all tasks from start to finish, including staging materials, setting up equipment, and learning adhesive mixing and vinyl compounding. The role demands basic math and computer skills for tasks like printing pick lists, managing jobs in the tracking system, and printing labels for finished materials. Compounders are expected to maintain a clean and organized work area, follow both written and oral instructions, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Essential duties involve safe operation of various industrial equipment, material handling, active participation in mixing/compounding processes, and thorough cleanup of work areas. Within the first six months, the Compounder must become proficient in setting up, operating, and cleaning all necessary equipment, and develop a basic understanding of product testing methods and troubleshooting production and quality issues related to adhesive mixing and vinyl compounding.

  • Heavy lifting is required
  • Must be able to differentiate between all colors to effectively perform color testing
  • Must be able to effectively listen and communicate in a loud and busy environment
  • Must always maintain a safe working environment and adhere to safety policies
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Good oral communication skills – ability to follow instructions both written and oral
  • Works well in a fast-paced team environment with the ability to work well alone
  • Self-motivated and interested in learning multiple functions required for the job
  • Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Displays ability and willingness to follow rules and regulations
  • Must be detail oriented, thorough, and able to focus and follow tasks through from beginning to end
  • Must be able to handle hazardous waste in a safe and proper manner in accordance with General Formulation, local, state, and federal guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Safe operation of pallet jacks, standup, and sit-down forklifts in a production environment
  • Safe operation of heavy-duty air driven equipment and tools including overhead hoist systems
  • Gauge distances and have good depth perception to safely operate hoist system and safely retrieve and return items to the warehouse racks
  • Stand for the duration of shift aside from scheduled breaks
  • Work in an environment with industrial solvents and pigments
  • Follow schedule and read job travelers, pick lists, pulls material from the warehouse following FIFO guidelines
  • Transport raw materials and return unused or partially used materials to the warehouse with proper documentation when applicable
  • Handle, label, and store finished materials properly
  • Actively involved in the set-up, mixing/compounding, and cleanup of the mixers, cast tanks, compounding room, and outlying areas
  • Learn to fully setup, operate, and clean all equipment necessary to complete all tasks required within the first 6 months
  • Perform and have a basic understanding of product testing using a viscometer, PH meter, Hegman gauge, draw down, and spectrophotometer within the first 6 months
  • Develop a basic understanding of the adhesive mixing process, cast vinyl compounding and versating process to effectively troubleshoot production and quality problems
  • Perform various shop floor transactions including opening jobs, issuing materials, closing jobs, and printing labels
  • Slide and shift drums and/or equipment on occasion and lift 50 pounds repetitively during a shift with the ability to reach, push, and pull, lean, twist, and bend
  • Responsible for housekeeping in the area and following the 5S principles
  • Differentiate between all colors to effectively perform color testing
  • Effectively listen and communicate in a loud and busy environment
  • Always maintain a safe working environment and adhere to safety policies
