About The Position

SUMMARY: The Composites Manager directs the production and staff of the composites department. Assisting in the quoting and development of new and old projects. Works closely with other departments to ensure all areas are developed to a successful launch and outcome. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Candidate will be responsible for the production and management of manufactured composite components. • Candidate will prepare composite materials and process selection studies, coordinate composite design activities with engineering, develop cost models and develop manufacturing implementation plans with P&M operations and / or supply chain. • Candidate will assist in development of technical solutions to complex design problems that require regular use of ingenuity and creativity. • Lead transition planning of composites shop from R&D to volume manufacture including development of investment and cost models, set-up of low-volume production lines, labor distribution and quality process standards. • Implement a composites production control system for managing low volume, diverse product manufacturing environments. • Lead training and development of composite production staff in efficient processes with focus on quality. • Knowledgeable of the following composite processes is preferred: hand lay-up, Pre-preg, filament winding, VARTM/RTM, or fiber placement of polymer matrix composites. Should have knowledge of composites processing support equipment such as ovens, presses, autoclaves, pattern cutters, laser projection systems, filament winding machines, fiber placement machines, VARTM/RTM or other similar equipment. • Design experience in composite tooling is required. • Require technical writing skills in support of proposal activity, reports and specifications using MS Word and Excel; good platform skills using PowerPoint for presentations. • Must have an understanding of the materials and processes utilized in composite products as well as associated composites testing techniques to validate product integrity. Demonstrated skills and ability to organize, execute, support other disciplines and subject matter experts in completion of assigned tasks and failure investigations.

Requirements

  • Successful, extensive background in plastics model making with a minimum of 5 years hands-on experience.
  • Strong administrative, managerial, and interpersonal skills require.
  • Ability to supervise personnel and coordinate workflow to meet or exceed predetermined timelines and quality levels.
  • A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience is required.
  • High School or GED equivalent required.
  • Incumbent must possess basic hand tools for the position and upgrade such tools as required to complete the tasks assigned.
  • Needs to be a self-starter with proficiency in budgeting time and allocating resources.

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and may require repetitive use of the hands and arms. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
