About The Position

The Boeing Defense Systems Materials and Process Technology team is seeking a high performing, motivated and self-starter Entry, Associate or Experienced Composites M aterials and Processes Engineer to join our team in Hazelwood , MO, supporting Boeing Defense development proprietary programs at the St. Louis, Missouri site. The Composites M&P Engineer will work independently as well as in teams, with internal and external suppliers, and will apply knowledge of materials and processes in various engineering and manufacturing disciplines. M&P skill areas include composite layup and assembly, bonded assemblies, composite testing, prepregs, adhesives, solvents, finishes, primers, polymer chemistry, elastomers and failure analysis, among others. This engineer will work in the office, laboratory and factory to support the evaluations noted above. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Bachelor’s degree (Level 1) OR Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years’ experience or a Master’s degree (Level 2) OR Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ experience or Master’s and 3+ years (Level 3)
  • Travel up to 25%
  • This position is expected to be 100% onsite.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
  • This position requires ability to obtain a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance , for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Material Science and Engineering
  • 2+ years experience with aerospace composite materials, assembly, fabrication, bonding
  • 2+ years experience with aerospace process and material specifications
  • Active Security Clearance
  • Experience with materials (such as epoxy, cyanate ester, bismaleimide, urethane, polyimide, reinforcements, non-metallic core, etc) and fabrication processes
  • Experience with composite and elastomer failure modes (structural and nonstructural) and analysis for materials, processes and parts
  • Experience reading/interpreting engineering drawings
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Must have strong written and verbal skills and the ability to effectively work within an Integrated Product Team environment
  • Applicants must be comfortable working in an environment of change and in support of multiple programs, internal and external customers, technical challenges, and deadlines
  • Candidate must have a positive attitude towards learning and a history of teamwork and taking initiative

Responsibilities

  • Provide Materials and Process Engineering support to Development Programs with focus on composites and bonded assemblies
  • Review and approve engineering drawings and procurement specifications
  • Author and revise material or process specifications
  • Specify composite materials, resin systems and adhesives for aircraft usage
  • Make routine contact with customers, teaming partners, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined integrated product team, working alongside other skilled technicians, engineers, and support staff
  • Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products
  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts, processes and suppliers to meet requirements. Integrates new technologies as appropriate
  • Qualification of facilities, equipment and suppliers for composite fabrication and bonding specifications and processes
  • Coordinate and author material/part test and qualification plans and reports
  • Review and approve supplier material processing procedures
  • Travel to subcontractor locations to review processes and assess compliance with requirements
  • Processing improvements through material and fabrication processes regarding non-metallic and composite material systems
  • Interface with government, external and internal customers
  • Support or lead non-conformances, corrective actions, fleet impact assessments, notice of escapes
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
