About The Position

The Component Engineering Technician will be responsible for continually improving processes within assigned areas, focusing on Centerless Grinding and Kadia precision honing operations. This role involves managing honing tools, performing equipment changeovers, troubleshooting, and maintaining tight dimensions and micron tolerances. The technician will also be responsible for creating detailed documentation, performing system upkeep and preventative maintenance for wash systems, conducting various audits (PFMEA, Safety, Layer Process), and troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues. Collaboration with cross-functional departments, assisting with training, and supporting changeovers to reduce downtime are also key aspects of this position. The technician is expected to meet annual goals set by the Engineering Manager and provide thorough documentation and reporting.

Requirements

  • Experience with Centerless Grinding changeover, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to assist operations with maintaining tight dimensions and micron tolerances for grinding operations.
  • Experience managing honing tools for precision honing operations.
  • Ability to reduce refurbishment costs through data analysis for each tool.
  • Detailed documentation creation capabilities (Work Instruction, Quality Information System documents - Engineering Change Requests, Material Inspection Reports, Process Change Requests, and Kaizen documenting and reporting).
  • Experience with systems upkeep, changeover assistance and improvement, preventative maintenance for Wash systems with micron filtration.
  • Ability to perform PFMEA reviews, Safety Audits, and Layer Process Audits.
  • Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Electrical troubleshooting skills across grinding equipment and Wash systems.
  • Team oriented with cross-functional department cooperation.
  • Ability to assist with training for Technicians, Associates and Coaches.
  • Ability to assist with changeovers with Technicians to reduce non-value-added time.
  • Lean principles experience working with and/or facilitating Kaizen Events.

Responsibilities

  • Continually improve processes in assigned areas.
  • Perform Centerless Grinding changeover, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist operations with maintaining tight dimensions and micron tolerances for grinding operations.
  • Manage over 600 honing tools for Kadia precision honing operations to improve efficiencies, reduce monthly refurbishment costs, communicate with in-house operations and outside suppliers to resolve issues with specific tools to maintain production standards cost-effectively and reduce downtime.
  • Reduce refurbishment costs through data analysis for each tool.
  • Create detailed documentation (Work Instruction, Quality Information System documents - Engineering Change Requests, Material Inspection Reports, Process Change Requests, and Kaizen documenting and reporting).
  • Perform systems upkeep, changeover assistance and improvement, preventative maintenance, and collaborate with the Chemist for best practices through all Wash systems with micron filtration.
  • Perform PFMEA reviews, Safety Audits, and Layer Process Audits monthly for assigned areas.
  • Perform Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Electrical troubleshooting across grinding equipment and Wash systems.
  • Cooperate with cross-functional departments.
  • Assist with training for Technicians, Associates and Coaches.
  • Assist with changeovers with Technicians to reduce non-value-added time.
  • Meet or exceed annual Goals established by Engineering Manager.
  • Thoroughly document and report for all Goals.
