About The Position

The Compliance Specialist ensures organizational adherence to applicable federal laws, regulations, and contractual requirements in the realm of government contracting. This role supports the company's ethics and compliance program, ensuring alignment with regulations such as the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), and export control laws (ITAR/EAR) as well as import control laws. The Compliance Specialist collaborates closely with contracts, legal, finance, HR, and security teams to identify compliance risks, implement controls, and maintain regulatory compliance across company operations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in compliance and government contracting in the aerospace and defense industry.
  • Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in ITAR / EAR export controls.
  • SME in ATF import controls.
  • Knowledge of federal acquisition regulations and government contracting requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to business operations.
  • Strong documentation and audit preparation skills.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Law, Compliance, or related field.

  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP).
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) for cybersecurity compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Support compliance with export control regulations including ITAR and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • Coordinate with security and IT teams to support cybersecurity compliance frameworks such as NIST SP 800-171 and the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC).
  • Prepare and manage ATF Form 6 (Part I) applications for the permanent importation of firearms, ammunition, and implements of war.
  • Execute ATF Form 6A for the release of defense articles from Customs custody and ensure serial numbers are correctly reported to the ATF within 15 days of release.
  • Maintain and renew the company’s registration as an importer of U.S. Munitions Import List (USMIL) articles using ATF Form 4587.
  • Manage the renewal and compliance of Federal Firearms Licenses (FFL) and Federal Explosives Licenses (FEL), ensuring all classifications are current.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal government contracting regulations including FAR and DFARS.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements and communicate their impact to internal stakeholders.
  • Track regulatory updates from agencies such as the U.S. Department of Defense and implement policy updates as required.
  • Develop, update, and maintain internal compliance policies and procedures.
  • Conduct internal compliance reviews and risk assessments.
  • Support external audits and reviews from agencies such as the Defense Contract Audit Agency and the Defense Contract Management Agency.
  • Provide employee training on ethics, government contracting compliance, export controls, and regulatory obligations.
  • Assist in investigating potential compliance violations, conflicts of interest, or ethics concerns.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records related to compliance monitoring activities.
