About The Position

Royal Waste Services, a Waste Connections company, is looking for a safety‑conscious Compliance Specialist to join our team in Queens, NY. This position will support regulatory compliance, safety programs, fleet compliance, and agency reporting for our Queens site. Pay Rate Starting at $23.00–$25.00 per hour (depending on experience) Schedule Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM–6:00 PM Saturday: 7:00 AM–1:00 PM

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in compliance, safety, fleet, or regulatory administration, preferably in waste hauling, transportation, construction, or logistics.
  • Strong working knowledge of NYC regulatory agencies (DSNY, BIC highly preferred).
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations, driver files, vehicle compliance, and safety programs.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and follow‑up skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and regulatory requirements simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language skills a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of truck components helpful for processing compliance and fleet documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct self in an appropriate and safe manner, in accordance with District and Company Safety policies
  • Serve as primary compliance liaison with regulatory agencies including: DSNY, BIC, NYS DEC, NYC DEP, and DOT (Federal, NYS, and NYC)
  • Prepare, submit, track, and maintain all required permits, licenses, registrations, and renewals
  • Monitor regulatory changes and proactively advise leadership on compliance impacts
  • Coordinate and support audits, inspections, hearings, and agency inquiries
  • Maintain compliance for all company vehicles, including registrations, DOT numbers and filings, HUT filings, insurance certificates, and inspection schedules.
  • Partner with Fleet Maintenance to ensure vehicles meet DOT, NYS, and NYC regulatory standards
  • Track out‑of‑service (OOS) data and corrective actions
  • Manage DOT compliance programs, including driver qualification files (DQFs), MVR reviews, medical certifications, drug & alcohol testing documentation, and Hours of Service (HOS)/ELD compliance.
  • File, track, and maintain all safety‑related records and reports
  • Support incident reporting, accident reviews, and corrective action tracking
  • Maintain and report on in‑house safety metrics (I‑Rate, preventable accidents, inspections, violations)
  • Support new hire onboarding from a compliance and safety perspective, including DOT documentation, agency requirements, and safety orientations
  • Coordinate and track refresher training, safety meetings, and required certifications
  • Maintain accurate training logs and compliance records
  • Maintain organized, audit‑ready digital and physical compliance files
  • Develop and distribute compliance dashboards, tracking logs, and reports
  • Assist leadership with compliance summaries for internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure timely follow‑up and closure of compliance gaps
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned
