About The Position

The Compliance Officer will oversee the institution's animal care and use program and research involving biohazardous agents/biological materials by managing the compliance functions of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). Responsibilities include scheduling committee meetings; maintaining records of protocols and official files of committee decisions; advising and educating faculty and students; and reporting annually to the various regulatory agencies (i.e., OLAW, OSP). He/She will also provide consultation to the Office of Sponsored Programs, faculty, staff and administrators regarding the interpretation of federal regulations for research compliance. He/She will maintain and provide a comprehensive educational and training program that ensures accountability for and compliance with applicable regulations and the standards of conduct for administrators, faculty, staff and students. He/She will manage the institution-wide research compliance reporting system and administer the intake, review, investigation, and resolution of applications. He/She will oversee the graduate clearance approvals. The Compliance Officer will perform other duties as required. This position reports to the Director of Research Compliance and Ethics in the Division of Research and Economic Development. The Division of Research and Economic Development (DORED) provides services to faculty and student researchers, to current and potential research partners, funding agencies, and economic development agencies. It is headed by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development. The Office of Research Compliance and Ethics works with researchers and the university's research oversight committees to ensure ethical conduct and compliance with regulations. It also handles export control, conflicts of interest and training in compliance and ethics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 5 years or more of experience in research compliance and/or managing IACUC/IBC committees; or Master's degree and 2 years of experience in research compliance and/or managing IACUC/IBC; or related professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with personnel, government and members of the research community
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to respond effectively to confidential inquiries
  • Excellent organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree and 3 or more years of experience in research compliance in a University setting
  • Membership in related professional organizations such as PRIM&R, AALAS, ABSA
  • Experience using electronic research compliance systems
