About The Position

We are looking to add a Compliance Director to join our Employee Benefits team in Dallas, TX, St. Louis Park, MN, or Waukee, IA . Essential Responsibilities: Provide strategic compliance guidance, both internally and with clients, regarding applicable federal and state laws, including all aspects of Internal Revenue Code (the Code), ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, internal Holmes Murphy policies and procedures, and other relevant laws and regulations as they affect employee benefit plans, to ensure effective customer service and mitigate corporate risk. Serve as a business development resource representing HMA’s compliance philosophy and operations in prospect meetings/finalist presentations. Respond directly to client inquiries and consult on areas to mitigate client risk without providing legal advice. Create and deliver educational presentations for clients and Holmes Murphy employees to keep them abreast of legal and regulatory developments through individual interaction, internal and external webinars, seminars and other live events annually. Develop and maintain written, client-facing educational tools for health and welfare employee benefits compliance. Continue to enhance the Holmes Murphy value proposition by implementing best in class tools and resources that can be deployed to our clients. Lead Compliance Committee comprised of various Employee Benefits roles. Identify and develop relationships with preferred compliance vendor sales and account management teams. Manages complex or escalated vendor issues. Management Responsibilities: Lead and motivate team by: Ensuring right talent is in the right role for the success of the organization, which may include hiring and terminating employees. Coaching and counseling team members on areas such as workflow, process and procedure, customer service and client consulting. Preparing and conducting performance feedback that defines future goals and objectives and holds employees accountable. Fostering a high-performance culture by supporting career development and advancement for team members. Responsible for timesheet management, including responding to PTO/RTO requests and approving timesheets. Participate in compensation decisions for team members, as applicable. Facilitate regularly scheduled meetings to foster teamwork. Attend team and enterprise meetings, as well as leadership training opportunities offered internally and externally. Coordinate initial and ongoing training with Growth & Development and team members on established processes and procedures. Provide back-up assistance for team members, as necessary. Qualifications: Education : High school diploma; college degree preferred. Experience : Minimum 7+ years ERISA and Employee Benefits and compliance experience. Skills & Licensing : JD and licensed and in good standing; Active state bar license required. Prior experience at carrier or broker agency firm and/or Labor & Employment Law experience a plus. Requirements

  • High school diploma; college degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7+ years ERISA and Employee Benefits and compliance experience.
  • JD and licensed and in good standing
  • Active state bar license required.
  • Demonstrates strong industry knowledge by applying insurance principles to deliver exceptional client experiences, aligning strategies with client needs while ensuring compliance.
  • Skilled in problem solving and risk management, efficiently identifying issues, implementing solutions, and mitigating potential risks to protect stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience at carrier or broker agency firm and/or Labor & Employment Law experience a plus.
