THE OPPORTUNITY We are looking for a Compact Equipment Repair Specialist to join our growing operations at our Lafayette, Louisiana location. The Compact Construction Technician will be responsible for servicing and repairing Caterpillar Compact (BCP) equipment at our shop or onsite at customer locations. Candidates require a strong work ethic to complete tasks efficiently and safely with minimal supervision. YEARLY POTENTIAL $60,000 - $120,000 yearly The yearly range indicated is representative of the hourly rate, including typical overtime. This range is based on a technician's experience, skills, education and training. For technicians, overtime is typically calculated on a daily basis after 8 hours worked.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in diesel mechanics preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with troubleshooting and repair skills on Construction Equipment such as Skid Steers and Mini Excavators.
  • Extensive knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulics, electrical and undercarriage including diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance
  • Must own required tool inventory. Louisiana Cat offers exclusive Tooling Program (specifics discussed during interview)
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong customer service skills, mechanical aptitude, professional demeanor and always "safety-first" mentality every hour of every day

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and reconditioning of all components of compact equipment such as electrical codes, engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, power generation and power trains
  • Responsible for complete and thorough documentation of diagnostics and repairs performed on work orders and on time submission of information according to Caterpillar standards and technical service manuals
  • Understand Caterpillar exchange parts process and inancial cost analysis of repairs for our customers
  • Tests and verifies proper operation of all repairs
  • Prepares and completes all work order documents on our Caterpillar customer service report software systems; in addition, accesses databases required to complete the job
  • Completes assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat rate time and re-work standards
  • Ability to act with a great sense of urgency to meet customer needs and work under fast-paced, time-constraining circumstances.
