About The Position

This is a Part-Time temporary position to engage youth at Aeroterra Permanent Supportive Housing in recreational activities and in the after-school program.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Community organization techniques.
  • Community programs, organizations, and agencies.
  • Communicate orally with customers, clients or the public in face-to-face one-to-one settings, using the telephone, or in group settings.
  • Draw or letter charts, signs, schedules, graphs, maps, or similar objects.
  • Comprehend and make inferences from written materials.
  • Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting.
  • Produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper English sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to the incumbent or others.
  • Work cooperatively with other City employees, clients or the public often under difficult circumstances.
  • Provide group leadership.
  • Requires evening and occasional weekend hours.
  • May require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
  • May will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
  • One year of responsible experience in community organizing events or activities.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, supervises, provides leadership, guidance, and assistance to community resident, citizen groups and committees to resolve complex problems
  • Serves as an advocate of community residents in obtaining community services for youth
  • Participates in planning and conducting of afterschool and community activities geared towards youth to keep them actively engaged - i.e. homework club, art activities, recreational activities etc
  • Identify additional social services needs of the youth and refer to the Supervisor
  • Assist Supervisor with the case plan development and tracking for the identified youth
  • Records and compiles data for related to services and activities provided for youth program
  • Services as a liaison and in partnership for youth activities working with Housing and Head Start and other community organizations
  • Prepares fliers and notification for planned events
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
