About The Position

This internship focuses on learning about the Carters offsite student summer programming. This intern position will experience working alongside Carter educators and Carter Community Artists in the writing and facilitation of K-12 community outreach education programs for community centers throughout the city of Fort Worth. The intern will also have the opportunity to help design and implement educational community events and festival acivities in collaboration with Carter Community Partners as part of the Museums offsite educational programming. This position is for approximately 8 weeks with the majority of the hours being during summer camp programs Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm, with the occasional weekend community event. The hourly rate for this internship position is $16/hour. Specific schedule to be agreed upon by the intern and his/her supervisor before the start of the internship but is a part-time schedule typically working 2-3 days/week.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of various learning styles and strategies to engage students of all ages.
  • Knowledge of current educational practices in informal learning environments.
  • Strong writing, public speaking, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage details of projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to be an enthusiastic spokesperson for the museums educational and programming efforts.
  • Computer literate; experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must successfully complete MVR, background, and pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Research and collaboratively brainstorm ideas for community teaching programs.
  • Collaborate with Carter staff and Carter Community Artists to design unique experiences for community programs
  • Observe and assist with the planning and facilitation of offsite community teaching at area community centers
  • Observe a variety of teaching styles and interactive artmaking techniques
  • Learn about day-to-day functions of an education team within an art museum setting including planning, scheduling, and implementing programming
  • Learn about cross-departmental collaborations and experiences by attending various meetings
  • Learn about and potentially assist with other Education team initiatives such as gallery teaching, adult programming, family programming, and museum interpretation and accessibility
  • Participate in education team sessions related to pedagogy and will have the opportunity to plan and facilitate a discussion
