About The Position

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others? The Community Support Specialist (CSS) plays a vital role in supporting individuals living with Substance Use Disorders (SUD) on their recovery journey. This position provides person‑centered, recovery‑oriented services that help individuals build stability, develop life skills, access community resources, and maintain engagement in treatment and recovery supports. The CSS works collaboratively with individuals, treatment teams, and community partners to promote long‑term recovery, wellness, and independence.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related human services field; or Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field and two years of qualifying experience; or Any four-year combination of higher education and related experience; or Associate’s degree in Behavioral Health Support; or Four years of qualifying experience
Qualifying experience includes working with individuals with mental health disorders, substance use disorders, or developmental disabilities. Experience should include services such as skill-building, group or one-on-one support, recovery-focused coaching, or assistance in community functioning and employment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to problem-solve and think critically
Self-motivated and organized
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Ability to navigate and coordinate community-based resources
Proficient in maintaining accurate and timely documentation

Nice To Haves

Experience in SUD treatment programs, recovery services, behavioral health, or community‑based support
Knowledge of recovery principles, relapse prevention, and harm‑reduction practices

Responsibilities

Provide community-based mental health services including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and intervention implementation
Collaborate with clients, families, and other stakeholders to develop and implement individualized treatment plans
Utilize a strengths-based approach that incorporates evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, Positive Reinforcement Techniques, Trauma-Informed Strategies, CBT, and DBT
Provide behavioral interventions using methods including cognitive processing, operant conditioning, and group dynamics
Coordinate care with external providers including physicians, psychiatrists, schools, and community organizations
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services and client progress
Facilitate PSR (Psychosocial Rehabilitation) group sessions as aligned with treatment plan goals
Participate in ongoing staff development and training opportunities
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives through data collection and reporting
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with families, schools, and community supports
