The Community Support Coordinator serves as a frontline resource for pet owners, providing guidance, referrals, and support with the goal of keeping pets with the families who love them. The ideal candidate is empathetic, organized, and passionate about animal welfare. In addition to managing direct communication with pet owners and assisting with key operational tasks, this role has the potential to grow into a more community-centered outreach position—engaging with local partners, organizing events, and helping expand LifeLine’s impact throughout the community.

Requirements

Compassion for animals and the people who love and care for them.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage compassionately and professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds in person, over the phone, and via email.
Demonstrated empathy and emotional resilience, especially when supporting individuals facing difficult or emotional decisions about their pets.
Ability to research, understand, and communicate available resources clearly and accurately to the public.
Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to maintain accurate records of all client interactions and support services.
Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to collaborate across departments and support organizational goals.
Comfort working in a fast-paced environment, adapting to changing needs and priorities with a proactive and flexible approach.
Cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with an open-minded and nonjudgmental attitude.
Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with email, Google Workspace, and data entry systems.
Passion for LifeLine’s mission and a desire to make a meaningful impact in the community.
Knowledge of general animal care principles and practices.
Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts based on shelter needs.
Must have a means of travel that ensures prompt arrival for work shifts.
Must pass a background check.
Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

One or more years’ experience in animal related field preferred.
Experience in customer service, social work, animal welfare, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Manage all correspondence with pet owners seeking resources and services through in-person interactions, phone calls, emails, and form submissions.
Provide compassionate counseling to community members facing challenges with pet ownership by offering available resources or referrals to trusted community partners, with the goal of keeping pets with the people who love them whenever possible.
Conduct ongoing research on current and potential resources to ensure pet owners receive accurate and up-to-date information and support.
Take responsibility to maintain detailed and accurate records of all communications and interactions with pet owners to ensure continuity of care and service.
Assist in the administration and daily operations related to the intake of owner-surrendered pets and adoption returns.
Coordinate with the Pets for Life team when necessary to arrange medical care and/or transportation for owned animals.
Courageously support LifeLine’s mission to save lives by maintaining a comprehensive understanding of all shelter operations, programs, and services.
Respect, embrace, and celebrate diversity by always operating with a judgement-free mindset and welcome visitors with a friendly and professional demeanor.
Help build a community of animal welfare advocates by supporting and engaging the volunteers who aid LifeLine.
Continue education by participating in LifeLine’s 40-hour annual training requirement.

Monitor community activities and maintain a calendar of events to increase visibility and promote awareness of LifeLine’s mission.
Build community engagement by organizing and participating in special events that support pet owners and reflect LifeLine’s mission and values.
Promote awareness of the organization’s work through community outreach efforts, including hosting fairs, attending neighborhood events, and distributing educational materials.
Develop relationships with local businesses, community leaders, and partners to assess community needs and help mobilize resources to address those needs.
Conduct research on community demographics, trends, and underserved areas to inform outreach strategies and expand LifeLine’s impact.
Take initiative to build and maintain long-term relationships with community stakeholders, identifying opportunities for collaboration and mutual support.
Design and implement community education programs to inform the public about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and available resources and benefits.
Create outreach materials and programs aimed at individuals, animal welfare groups, and potential corporate sponsors, with guidance and approval from leadership.
