Public Safety work involving police services in the investigation and enforcement of traffic laws and ordinances as related to automobile accidents and to assist in the protection of life and property on roadways. Work follows standard operating procedures; however, the employee has the latitude to determine what procedure or precedent to follow based on the work situation. Community Service Officers are confronted with various situations which require quick assessment and the use of good judgment to resolve issues that may arise. The daily community service tasks are performed in the field in an uncontrolled environment, where risks and hazards are substantial, generally unknown and unpredictable. Operates a Community Service Officer vehicle equipped with emergency traffic lights, Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office markings, mobile radio and other electronic data communication devices, and related law enforcement equipment. Work requires sitting, standing, or walking for long periods of time and may require physical exertion. Work is performed under general supervision where work assignments may vary and, although subject to standard practices and procedures, the Community Service Officer is permitted some latitude to set own priorities subject to superior's approval.
