About The Position

Under general supervision, performs routine manual work in the maintenance and upkeep of public buildings and grounds. Responsibilities include cleaning, maintaining, and securing public buildings and equipment. This position works on an assigned shift and receives verbal or written instructions. Work is subject to inspection during progress and on completion. There is contact with employees and the general public.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.)
  • Possess or obtain (within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Wisconsin Driver's License
  • Maintains prompt, predictable, and regular physical attendance.
  • Must be able to take direction and work well with others.
  • Must be able to concentrate and perform accurately.
  • Must be able to react to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Must be able to back-up fellow co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Performs custodial activities such as vacuuming and shampooing carpet; sweeping; mopping; scrubbing, stripping, and polishing floors; washing walls, windows, and woodwork; dusting, polishing, arranging, and moving furniture and equipment; cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies.
  • Performs conference room and meeting set-ups.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance functions. Repairs all building operating apparatus, prepares surfaces for painting, paints and performs general carpentry.
  • Performs electrical repairs such as: replacement of light switches, wall receptacles, light fixtures, motors, air conditioning units, etc.
  • Collects garbage from offices, hallways, bathrooms, common areas and consolidates it.
  • Performs plumbing duties including repair of faucets and traps, replacing valves, drinking fountains, and other plumbing fixtures.
  • Performs snow removal duties as needed.
  • Inspects safety equipment including eye wash stations and fire extinguishers.
  • Monitors boilers for the purpose of heating public buildings. Inspects heating valves and VAV equipment for proper operation.
  • Operates chillers for the purpose of cooling public buildings. Performs maintenance and repairs on chillers and equipment, as needed, cleans coils, monitors building management software.
  • Maintains air handling equipment, cleans interior coils, replaces air filters, inspects motors and drive belts, performs monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual preventive maintenance.
  • Maintains City grounds including raking, mowing, watering lawns, removing rubbish, removing snow and ice manually and operating a snow blower, pick-up and other small equipment, as needed. Loads and unloads pickup and delivery vehicles.
  • Performs repairs and maintenance on the City's radio tower sites. Maintains HVAC systems, checks for alarms or faults, and maintains building grounds.
  • Operates a computer in order to process work orders using the City's building management program, checks building operations such as security, fire alarms, HVAC control systems, and diagnoses building management system alarms and failures.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of facilities and reports any damaged or missing property.
