About The Position

The mission of Gaston County Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) is to preserve and enhance the quality of life for the residents and visitors of Gaston County by providing superior quality Emergency Medical Service. An hourly salary range of $27.45 to $31.91 is anticipated for this position. The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform. Expands access to non-urgent health care through in-home patient visits and/or community-based services Serves as a trained "navigator" of community resources · Provides outreach education to citizens Paramedic level · Work includes participating in community outreach education, prevention programs, and participating in continuous in-service training · Provides proactive care that is intended to help improve the overall health and wellness of program participants · Requires excellent rapport, understanding, and communication with the patients and their family members · Common services will include assessment (vital signs, blood pressure, labs such as glucose levels, diagnostic cardiac monitoring, medication compliance and reconciliation, adherence to discharge instructions, etc.) · Works in cooperation with other stakeholders/key medical providers to offer coordinated and integrated care (physician offices, home health agencies, hospice, long-term care facilities, public health department, social services, etc.) · Consistently demonstrates professional behavior and performs proactive interventions which support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Gaston County Emergency Medical Services · Builds and advocates for the program, creates community engagement, and provides outreach education to the public Maintains all knowledge, skills, and competencies to perform this role · Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence Attends staff meetings and committee meetings as required · Performs related duties as required

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: County geography and road network systems
  • Knowledge of: Principles and practices of effective supervision
  • Knowledge of: Operation and utilization procedures for two-way radio communication and equipment
  • Knowledge of: Emergency care, medical facilities, and their services
  • Knowledge of: State of North Carolina motor vehicle and emergency vehicle rules and regulations
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university EMS program with a valid NC Paramedic or National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification. AAS degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Current certification in North Carolina as an EMT-Paramedic (NREMTP preferred) with current certification and/or Instructor in the following: ACLS PHTLS PALS/PEPP AMLS ASLS GEMS CPR NRP
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License and not have MORE than 3 points on driving record
  • Experience and training in responding to and controlling hazardous material incidents
  • Minimum of one year of Service with EMS.
  • Candidates selected will undergo a background check. The candidate selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
  • In compliance with G.S.153A-94.2 (b), if the position being filled requires an applicant for employment to work with children in any capacity, the County must require the applicant, if offered the position, to be subject to a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI. These checks must be performed in accordance with G.S.143B-1209.26, which authorizes the SBI to provide fingerprint-based state and national criminal record checks to cities and counties.
